Discount Code?

Instead of ordering individual gift certificates, is there a way to generate an individualized code that could be used for a 1 time discount?  I would like to give the employees of our business a $15 credit towards the store, however,  it would only be able to be used for 1 purchase (instead of the current discount option that can be used over and over). I rather not pay the extra $ for physical  gift cards as we have a lot of employees and that cost will affect the discount that we are able to provide.

Hi there!

While you cannot create a one time use Discount or Promo Code at this time, what you can do is create an employee discount and then create a 4-digit passcode restrict the application of discounts to sales.

Perhaps your fellow sellers have a few work arounds that can help.

Hey, I'm just chiming in as another interested customer. What shopbancroft is trying to do is exactly what i would like to do as well. We have 190 employees and 90 of them are part-time (turnover) so creating cards for each employee takes a ton of maintenance.

EJ, you mention "what you can do is create an employee discount and then create a 4-digit passcode restrict the application of discounts to sales." Do you mean just a manager override code to enable this discount to apply to a sale? If so, this is not only time consuming for managers but also has no trackability. I would ultimately like to know that I am alloting x dollars per month to employee credits and each employee has to budget this rather than keep it open ended. If I were to keep discounts open ended (as they are now with a swipable discount card) I would like to have a feature that allows me to view all transactions with discounts for a given time frame and location and then have drill down abilities to see which employee rang in the sale, what time, who's discount code/card was used. It sounds like a lot, I know.

Do you have other scenarios that other restaurants are using to allow for employee discounts with some accountability?

Thanks all,

Jensine

@jruscito - Appreciate your comments. I can't think of any other suggestions other than what @shopbancroft and @EJ offered. It sounds like the gift card option might be best for you.@EJ offered. It sounds like the gift card option might be best for you.

I would like to mention that gift cards are reusable, and the balances can be cleared if an employee were to leave (as long as you can get it back).

thanks for your input. Could you tell me about the process for reloading gift cards? Hypothetically what i would like to do is be able to reload gift cards once per month and be able to do this for 200 cards relatively quickly and easily. How would this process look?

@jruscito - The cards would need to be loaded one at time, which is obviously inconvenient when you have to do such a large number of them. To load them, you just ring out a "Gift Card" item in the Square Register app.
