Text Messaging Clients

Please bring back text messaging clients!!!  Our business used this feature daily.  We want to be able to initiate message conversations with our clients.  This was one of the features that attracted us to Square.  Our clients really enjoy it as well, it is convenient and easy to use!

Also seeing how this develops as they removed this feature during the last SMS outage (for an entire month). Since then, they never brought it back nor has said anything official about it. They're expecting you to call, email or text(using your own cell) and tell them to initiate the text sent by square in order for you to reply to it. This is so dumb. I don't know the logic behind this decision.

Ok, so I'm not the only one who has lost the ability to text customers about their orders? Wtf! We don’t have a phone so we heavily relied on this when there is an issue with an online order.

Hello @PomonaRawFusion

Square has made a few updates to Square Messages to minimize potential disruptions in the future after our disruption back in December. These communications will now be dependent on your customers starting the conversation by replying to service messages, like a receipt, appointment reminder, or order update, just to name a few. We’re also working to re-enable unrestricted outbound messaging capabilities early next year.

We know and understand how challenging service changes can be and we apologize for any inconvenience.

I hope this information gives you some understanding.

Thank you for the information.  We are very hopeful that the outbound messages will be reinstated asap.  In the meantime, can we create a service message to send to our clients that they could respond to?  For instance we offer text reminders for when they are due for booking their next appointment.  If we sent a service message asking them to respond Yes if they would like to receive our notices….then the conversation would be started and we could continue messaging?  Or is there a timelimit in conversations for us to reply?  Some of our clients need reminder texts monthly or every 3 months.

At this time, Square Messages is limited to interaction when Sellers initiates the conversation. As I mentioned above we hope this changes soon @CPS2021
