Square magstripe reader: Can I accept debitcards?

I just received the basic audio jack reader from square. I understand that this reader does not read debit cards...is that right? So just your typical Visa, Mastercard etc?

Welcome to the Seller Community, @StaySharp -

You're right, in Canada, if you have the magstripe reader (which connects to your phone via the audio jack) you can only accept credit cards.

To accept debit cards (tap or insert) you'll need a Contactless and Chip Card reader.
