Feature Request: Customize category icons, and add photos to categories like items

The title of this post has been edited from the original: Can you apply pictures for categories?

Would LOVE to be able to add a picture to each Category I create. I see we can add a picture for items but not for categories. Could you send a request for a future update for this? Would make our Square Register screen so much nicer and prettier. Thank you.

I have put category's in the Item Setup menu on the first page of the register. I want to put pictures instead of the gray box with two letters. Pictures will be easier to recognize quickly, and I haven't found a way to update these.

@OpenDoorTea Sorry this feature is not available yet. Square is aware of our desire to be able to do this but has no time frame if and when it will happen. You can look for many other threads about this. Lets hope it soon happens. 🙂

actually 🙂  I've done it, a work around.  Search another post I commented on.

I went into the category option on my tablet that has easy access to small graphic pictures.

I chose pictures that were the closest to what my category was.

Mine are the seasons, so Summer was a sun, Winter a snowflake, Autumn an orange leaf, Wildlife a graphic of a bird, etc.

It then shows up in your register with the small graphic.

The only problem is when you export the data, the graphic comes up as squiggly code in that field before the name.  So you would just have to know that and if need be, do a search and replace for that code to the actual name of your category if you need

I still put the name of the category after that graphic so the words and picture show up.

@cpl - To be a little frank, prioritization of feature requests is tough. It's a balance between offering new features that businesses need to function, but also adding features that would be nice, or streamline operations. While I'm not personally involved in that process, I do know that our product teams certainly take seller feedback into consideration. I'd suggest checking out this thread on the feature request process for more details.

Having the same problem.  Have we any word as to whether Square will add this functionality?  I am managing a menu for an owner who has some visual/accessibility issues, and the ability to add color or graphics would greatly help the situation.

Was this on an apple ipad? I have tried to change the category picture and cannot find a workaround to do so. Any help you can provide would be a great help!

I have an Android.  It probably doesn't matter which icons you use, as long as you have access to them.

Remember,  when exporting into Excel, those icons become squiggly code and you will have to do a search and replace with " "  nothing so you can then use the report for sorting by the column that has graphics
