head image too dark

The header image (banner) of my site appears darker than it should. I lightened and re-uploaded the image but it still shows up very dark. As comparison, below are the banner as it appears on the website and the original (how it should appear).

Can anyone tell me how to fix this? I didn't delete the default background image -- can the theme's background image be causing this? Should I delete it?

Thanks.

Hi, @Augustine!

I don't believe this is specific to a theme, but the header element may make images a bit darker to enhance the text that folks usually add over it. If you still want it lighter, you may want to try making it lighter outside of Weebly once again.

Please let me know if that doesn't work.

Thanks,

Erin

My pic brightness waas fin then went dark. There is something wrong with the code. Please fix it as it looks terrible even after making the pic brighter. Don't make this our problem. Just fix it!

Did you change themes, @matdross? I took at a look at the site in your account and thought your header image looked fine, but I don't know what it might have looked like before.

Hi Adam. I have shown the header image on the FAQ page on my site for your review. www.agentcentral.com.au

I photoshopped my image to max bright and contrast an dit was still very dark.

Ok, thanks for clarifying.  That theme has some styling to apply a dark overlay to header images, so you'd need to override that with theme customizations to stop that.  A simpler solution might be to just switch to a similar theme and re-upload your images.

Hi Adam,

I appreciate your answer to this and am curious about being able to turn off the dark overlay in the theme customizations...this is possible?

When I asked, I was told from a Weebly support staff member that it wasn't:

"Please note some themes have a built in overlay in the header area which would darken the image. This would be built into the design of the theme itself and would not be a built in option in the editor to adjust/remove that. Sorry about that."

Before I go changing the theme entirely, I'd love some clarification. Thanks!

Same thing happened with me. I was told the only option is to change the theme. I would love if you had the option to turn off the overlay in the header area that is built into the theme itself!

JaphyP, sorry to say, you cannot turn off that dark overlay. You may have to opt for a different theme instead.

Is there not a simple change we can make in the 'Code Editor' to take out the dark overlay? I'm using the theme 'Southcorner – Haberdasher' and taking out the dark overlay on my header images is only change I'd like to make.

Hey there Adman! We wouldn't be able to advise you on code directly, but our Community here should be able to point you in the right direction to make that change.

I am having this problem as well.  It would be nice to know in advance, as a theme description which have the dark overlay.  It takes a lot of time to "test" out different themes one by one and upload images on each one to see if it is darkened.  I have spend hours on this issue trying to edit and completely throwing off the colours in the images, and also trying different themes, uploading and finding the theme I choose also has the darkened overly.  Very very frusting and a huge waste of my time.

Thanks for the feedback, @Ladyofthewood3. I can understand how that would be annoying not knowing this in advance.
