The easiest solution is to replace your home page with a regular page, @Snakeyard. On the pages tab, click on the "+" button to add a new page and name it "home", or whatever name you'd like to use for your home page. After saving the page, go back to the list of pages and click and drag your new page to the top of the list of pages.

What is the hard way?
I would like to use the blog feature but we want the side-bar to be larger so that we can add a Google agenda formatted calendar there. We can put it in the header but it does not look as nice as if it were next to our blog. I found the class, blog-sidebar and increased the width, but it does not increase the width for the element box which seems to be determining the width of the content of the sidebar. My page is ctla.cgc.edu/facultyworkshops.html

Thanks for posting your site name. It sounds like you are on the right track, and hopefully another user on here can help guide you in the right direction. The only suggestion I can make is to switch to a theme that displays the content of the side bar at the bottom of the page, but I don't think that will work for what you are trying to do. I believe Paper and Oasis both have this content at the bottom.
