Special Characters Don't Render Properly & Weird Characters Are Inserted In My Entry

 I have 2 issues with Weebly site that started happening more and more lately.

1. Special characters don't render properly on the published site (even if using HTML embed) but appears properly on the editor. Notice: â˜…★★★★  That is supposed to be stars.
   
   
2. Weebly inserts wierd characters in my entry. Notice: you’ and who’, those were not there initially. Those things only appear on the published site.
   EDIT: I also noticed that on this blog page I have Weebly systematically addes those wierd characters in the beginning of the entry. So I have to go back and remove it manually. And it only seems to happen when there's a custom HTML block.
   
    

Here's the thing: Initially everything appears ok. But when I update the entry, all of a sudden those characters appear and the special characters are not rendered anymore. And yes, for the body of the entry I strip formatting (using TX) and I'm pasting from text edit (so no rich text).

The best solution that Weebly's help center could give me is remove the cutom HTML because that is causing the problem. But I need those to be there! Also this problem only seem to happen with blog pages because the same coding works on a standard page.

Anyone encountering the same problem? Any ideas how to fix this?

PS: For now, I have no choice but to remove the custom HTML and use an image for the stars until we figure this out.

This post used to be fine until I went back to edit it. As you can see, a new paragraph also begins with weird characters. The same happened to other posts that I went back to edit, and I had to go back and re-write several paragraphs to fix them.

Sorry about that @ninaframbuesa We didn't see your post. When I go to the editor the special characters are shown as incorrect like the live site. Did you previously state that the editor was showing the fonts correctly? Just need to make sure we are all on the same page. Can you copy what this is meant to be "​" because when I open the blog post nothing is shown.

When I go to the overview of the editor it also shows those characters, but when I actually go into the post to edit it it looks fine.

In this case, it's not only replacing special characters with random ones it's adding them to random places like the beginning of sentences as well, as you pointed out. You will also see apostrophes that were turned into these characters.

In the other post that I mentioned originally, I had this issue with characters such as é and ß. I had to change that entire post to make it readable so I cannot show it to you.

Okay, thank you for clarifying. I'll check with Adam to see if he has any thoughts about it. In the meantime I'll try to recreate in my account with a different font to see if we can start eliminating the cause.

I already tried to change the font, as advised, but the problem persisted. Please also keep in mind that the posts were originally okay and only have this issue when I go back to edit them. It's possible that between the original post date and the moment I went in to edit the post I may have changed the theme. That's the only thing I can think of that may have something to do with this.

Changing themes could definitely change fonts, although I would have thought that after trying a few different fonts you'd find one that didn't have a problem. Can you contact our Customer Success team about it, @ninaframbuesa? These fonts are all Google fonts so I'm not sure what might have changed, but it's probably worth having a closer look from our Tier 2 team.

No solution from the support team, but after running more tests myself I was able to figure out that the problem appears as soon as I use the Embed Code button to embed Instagram posts. Can you let me know if there is another way to add Instagram posts to avoid this issue?

Could you paste the code in here that you were using with the embed code element? I'm not sure if there's anything we can do, but it wouldn't hurt to see the code.

This is one example, but it happens with any embed code from Instagram. This was not always an issue so I don't know if some sort of update caused this. Past posts are fine, but as soon as I edit one they get messed up. I know that WordPress users don't have this issue so it's quite disappointing, to be honest.

I have managed to dodge it linked my IG account with FB each IG post is published in FB and from FB I copy the embed code and paste it on my blog and it seems to solve the issue of accents.

Ran into this issue on 3-2-21. Didn't notice the weird characters until I embedded an IG post. Thanks for doing the legwork on this issue.

Hopefully, Weebly can work on some sort of solution.
