Sharing pages to Social Media with the correct image showing?

Hello folks,

How do I share my individual pages to social media (Facebook, Twitter, Google+ etc) and have the appropriate image for that specific page showing?

Image below will show you what I mean.

Many thanks and regards, Jay

You can add your own meta tag into the Header Code field for a particular page if you know the URL of the image you want to use. For example, this would be the code using the image that you added to that page:

<meta property="og:image" content="http://www.jaylethbridgephotography.co.uk/uploads/1/0/7/8/10780982/editor/bike4_1.jpg">

BTW, I have also done the Facebook Debugging that is suggested on other pages of this community and it does not work for me. Still the same.

Thanks again Smiley Wink Regards, Jay

Try adding some standard image elements to the page, @jaylethbridge. I think Facebook might not want to use images from a Gallery element.

@Adam - I was hoping not to do that as I prefer the gallery look and feel and didn't want too much "clutter"  ........... but, maybe I could add a Landing Page image to the top of the page, see how that looks, feels and works.

Thanks Adam Smiley Wink

I can understand that. Sometimes Facebook takes a little wrangling to get it to do what you want. Robot Happy

@Adam - Yes indeed, unfortunately Smiley Sad
Just added an image to the top left of the text, but nothing shows yet when shared. Just wondering if it needs to "catch up" LOL

And, as it is a weebly feature, I have opened up a support ticket to see if they can help point me in the right direction.
Cheers again Adam Smiley Wink

That's really weird that it isn't using that image, or even seeing it as a tag. It's a standard img tab and of a size that should be usable by Facebook.

@Adam - Indeed, but I do recall some time back now about an image link (whilst in contact with Weebly themselves) about some "og-image" linking, but for the life of me, don't recall what is was or where it now is.

That monkey image is being taken from the "slideshow" on the homepage, which appears as the first image in that slideshow, which would kind of make sense, but I am dead sure that you can link images to pages, according to the genre of those pages.

I am thinking, that for each pages SEO, there would be a link to add to the HEADER CODE of the seperate pages and link the images this way. Just a thought though Smiley Surprised

It seems to be picking it up now; if you share it manually at Facebook you can click the little arrow button to switch to the bike image:

@Adam - AH, OK, I see it now LOL
I was using my "sharing buttons" at the bottom of the page? Would be usful if they would work as well.
Thanks for checking that for me. Much appreciated Smiley Wink

No problem! When you use those Facebook will pick an image and go with it; I'm guessing it takes the one because it comes first in the source code for the page.

Yeah, quite possibly. Just wondering if I should either remove those "sharing buttons" or find some new ones that will work?
If I could give you more Kudos, I would LOL Smiley Surprised

Oh you know what, I just noticed that the monkey image is a meta tag you added to Settings > SEO > Header Code. If you move that to the Header Code field for your home page on the pages tab, it should stop it from interfering on other pages of your site.

AH Ha, yes indeed. I have removed that and added it to the homepage settings alone.
Wil have to wait for it to catch up with itself now in regards to it still seeing the onkey image. I know it takes some time to catch up with itself sometimes.

Thanks again my friend, appreciated Smiley Wink

Once you've shared it and use a particular picture, it's possible that FB will always use that picture as part of its cache of the share. I'm not sure if that's the case without testing, though.

You could probably replace the share button with a like button instead; I think having some kind of social media tie-in is always a good thing.

@Adam
I don't know, but I cleared the cache at FB earlier (Debugged it), but that hasn't changed anything in regards to the Monkey Image still showing. I have NOT as of yet cleared my entire website cache in general.

Yes indeed in regards to the social sharing icons .......... I do like them on my website in some form or another so that "passers by" can feel the need to like and/or share if they want to.

Social Network platfroms can be found top-right of the website. They will alsways remain in some form or another as well.
Like you say, in this day and age on the internet, good to have some sort of social sharing allowed, seeing as the way things are on the net today.

Just another kudos for you sir LOL

Was that after sharing the page manually and choosing the other image?

No mate, that part is fine. I can share manually and change to the other image, no problem.

Just talking about using the button option and even though I have removed the coding from the settings/SEO section for the entire website, as suggested, the monkey image still shows.
Just curious why it hasn't change if the option has been removed. Those buttons are for the benefit of the visitors and they will know no different, unlike ourselves Smiley Wink

Chances are, I shall remove those and try something else, but something else it will be LOL Smiley Surprised
