Old Site Showing Up In Google Search

Hi @Adam  and @Bernadette

I've been working on my FAQ page today and noticed that when I search for "Reclaim Design FAQ" to test out what I've been doing, the old reclaimdesign.weebly FAQ page comes up. How is that possible? It's been a long day and it's late so maybe I'm missing something, but it would be much better if it didn't show up for obvious reasons. Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix? Thanks very much for your help.

Michael.

It sounds like from what I've found searching Google product forums that you just have to wait.

How long ago did you switch from that subdomain to the custom domain? It can take a while for Google to update search results. We automatically forward everything from the old subdomain to your custom domain, so those should get updated eventually.

@michaelm73

U can also force google to crawl ur site.   Which speeds things up.

Submitt the sitemap.xml

Hi @Adam it was 28th October last year. Hi @whitemonkey I've submitted and resubmitted the sitemap and requested indexing multiple times over that period.

Weird - usually this just happens automatically. Do you have a property set up for the old subdomain in Google Search Console?

Hi @Adam no I've only got the new domain and url prefixes (these need to be included in order for Google's disavow link tool to work)

Ok. I'm really surprised that Google hasn't updated those by now. As soon as it would try to check the links it'll see they redirect to the domain.

Me too. Is there nothing else I can do other than wait?

Thanks very much for following that up for me @Adam - I had no idea it can take 6 months (at least that's what one of those guys said in the thread) to index correctly in spite of submitting up-to-date sitemap.....

I've never heard a specific date range although I have seen it take varying amounts of time. A bit of a bummer, though - I wish Google would provide people some options in cases like these.

Me too. I find their "help" files very generic, lacking decent examples and mostly unhelpful
