Is Weebly being swamped by SPAM?
The rate of spam comments I'm getting - via blog comments and forms - in the last 2-3 days is about 20 times more than usual and the rate seems to be increasing.
I've no idea why it's happening. I've not got a problem with the email addresses used for account and the site - which means I conclude this is a Weebly problem.
I've asked Weebly before to pay more attention to creating effective spam filters re comments etc via the forms and blogs - and have been told this is not a priority.
Why would a website which has a good reputation not want to pay attention to something which could TRASH its reputation if spam is allowed to swamp the sitea and not brought under control?
Especially as people talk - and not just in this community - about spam problems
There is no mechanism for us to report to Weebly when we have received spam comments so there is no scope for Weebly to blcok specific email addresses from commenting/submitting forms.
PS One way of avoiding repeats from the same source is to identify the email address it has come from and add this into "with these words" cell in whatever you use to block email and them create a filter which deletes any comments received with those words.
I can't block the comments - because then I would be blocking all mail from Weebly!!!

Spam is unfortunately one of those things that can happen with a form on a website. Even using a captcha doesn't stop human spammers from entering junk, as you saw with the spammy posts we had here in Community. I removed those and banned the spammer, by the way.
