How do I remove uploaded files?

I've got a downloadable form on my website...this form has been updated several times and re-uploaded. All of the links are updated as well to dowload the newest form. The problem I'm having is some of my customers have been searching Google for my form and they are finding old forms. Any way I can get rid of those old forms?

Hello,

We can manually delete these files from the server for you. Just submit a support ticket, include all the file names and we can remove them.

Submit your ticket here

We do not recommend using the removal option from Google as it can cause problems with indexing in the future.

Once the files are deleted. You can request a crawl from Google as part of the features available with a free Google Webmaster Tools service.

The following article on our help site shows the exact steps you should take in order to get verified with Google Webmaster tools.

http://kb.weebly.com/webmaster-tools.html

Once you are verified. You can learn how to request a crawl by visiting the following tutorial:

http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1352276

While you are waiting for the index to be updated. You may create a custom 404 page to redirect visitors to the homepage.

To create a custom 404 page for your site:

* Log into your account at Weebly.com, open the Editor for the site you wish to edit, and click on the 'Pages' tab.

* Create a new page named "404" (without the quotes).

* Make the page hidden. To create hidden pages, please see:

http://hc.weebly.com/hc/en-us/articles/201994638-Manage-Pages

* Edit the page to add whatever message you want your users to see when they click on a broken link to your site.

Don't forget to publish the changes.

Google has a 'Remove URL' tool which works quite well. I had to submit a few of my site's old links that were broken and showing up in the search results.

Take a look under Google Webmaster tools here - https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/removals?pli=1&authuser=1

Good idea...didn't even think about that. I guess I assumed that Weebly would have a way of doing that. Apparently not.

Thanks!

It's ridiculous to not have a tool to manage files on a website.

I don't understand why I can't manage the files uploaded to my own site. This really needs to be addressed.

Can you add kudos to this post on our Vote on Features board, @MMS1?

https://community.weebly.com/t5/Vote-on-Features/Access-to-image-directory-File-Manager/idi-p/601

That's the best way to let us know that you'd like us to add this as a feature.

How are we supposed to tell you which file(s) to remove if we can't even view a list?

It's not the most ideal system, but we working to improve it. What type of files are you trying to remove?

I was searching for a solution to this problem as well. Is there really no way to delete uploaded files from our Weebly account unless we submit a support ticket?

Thank you.

I am running into this problem. I have over ten websites on my designer account. One is a restaurant group and they have been updating their menus since 2014. Now it seems that I have reached my maximum file allowance and can no longer update a menu properly. The list window is not that wide so I could never tell you what files need to be purged. I am about to design two new websites, one that has multiple PDF's. I am wondering if I need to start opening separate designer accounts for each of my client websites, so I do not run into a max allowance since old files cannot be purged. This is a reseller nightmare. On hold for tech support right now.

Oh, no! That would definitely be a hassle to manage. Smiley Sad

Were you able to get through to support and did they offer any suggestions for you? I wonder if one of the third party apps would work better for you.

I really need to have the ability to remove files from my website (not just remove links to them from my site, but remove their presence on the web). Is there really no way to do this on weebly? If not, I need to find another format to run my website. Please advise.

Deleting the element you used to upload the file will delete the file itself. This means is you used a text link in a text element to upload the file, deleting that text element will also delete the file.

If you know what specific files you need deleted we can also remove them for you.

This http://www.klindeman.com/uploads/3/8/2/2/38221431/lindeman_cv.pdf now directs to an outdated cv. I very much would like that link to no longer lead to the outdated file. I don't know what you mean when you say "Deleting the element you used to upload the file will delete the file itself." I'm sure it was linked via a button, are you telling me to delete that button, even know the button now links to another (updated) cv?

Yes, that's correct. That would also delete the newer CSV you linked to, though. I've gone ahead and deleted the one you linked to, though.

Thanks! Unfortunately, that button seems to be part of the page template, and so I can't delete it without deleting all the content on the page and starting over.

Anyway, I'll keep this in mind. Thanks!
