Header Issue

Hey all, new user here. So far I'm loving the site builder and have no complaints! 

I am curious about when editing headers. Whenever I change the theme, the sample text over the photo doesn't crop the photo what-so-ever, but when I upload my own photo, I get a text box overlay on top of the photo that covers a huge area. Is there a way to get rid of this?

Spotlight will generally create that overlay. However, you should be able to simply select No Header in the Page menu, then use the image as a Section background to avoid that effect.
