Hello, hopefully this is the correct place to post this. I've been hosting some HTML pages here for several months now, located in the Assets folder of my site themes, so they were accessible like so: http://cpmtiger.weebly.com/files/theme/TestPage/test-weebly-page.html A few days ago, however, trying to visit the site started resulting in the html file being downloaded to the browser instead of displaying. Stylesheets, javascript, and most of my image files in Assets also seem to no longer be properly accessible.
I haven't changed anything in the code recently enough to explain this; in fact, a page I haven't edited since August or so is also affected by this. I did some research and it seems like the files are passing an incorrect content-type - text/plain, rather than text/html (or text/png, etc.). I tried changing the HTML's meta tag even though it should have been working already, but it looks like it's being overwritten by something on Weebly's end.
Is there anything I can do that might overwrite it, or perhaps someone from Weebly knows of something that might have updated over the weekend that could explain what happened (and can maybe suggest a fix for it?) Thanks!

I got an update back, but unfortunately it's not the answer you probably wanted. HTML files are not supposed to be uploaded to a theme, and the fact that it worked for a time was actually a bug (rather than the other way around). Sorry, guys.

That's certainly a bit odd! You may want to get in touch with support directly, so they can check the page over for you for any oddities.

I actually contacted support first, the day after it started happening. I was told they were "not able to provide case by case solutions for custom HTML problems and questions, due to the wide range of uses and associated problems. There are just too many variables for our team to be able to provide hands-on guidance."
It's possible they didn't catch that my files had been previously working for months on Weebly and I didn't make changes that caused the break - I can try replying to the email to clarify, it just didn't seem worth it if the support team has a blanket "we don't work with custom HTML" policy.

I'm no coder myself, so I couldn't say where HTML ends and file structure begins. If you'd like, though, go ahead and PM me the ticket number, and I'll be glad to double-check things.

I have the same issue.
Html files saved under themes used to be offered as html pages in browser.
Now, suddenly, they get downloaded in the browser instead
No change in code from my side.
The link the OP gave is perfect example. Click on it, you expect an HTML page to be served but instead a file gets downloaded
It appears that Weekly has stopped or misconfigured the HTML server

Hey there VM! Just as a heads up, if you haven't already, definitely contact support directly as well, as they can help work out the specifics with you as well.

I have the same issue. Html files used to be displayed in page, now they do not work and instead a download option appears. This requires me to use a different server to store html files whic does not make sense.

Yeah, still no updates on a fix for this. I've replied to the Support ticket I sent in again with more details and a link to this thread; we'll see what they have to say.

My web page is totally nonfunctional since Html files stored in "themes" directory are suddenly being offered for download instead of being shown as HTML web pages
No change from my side to my files. It is a sudden change in the way weebly reacts

Hi any news on this? I don't want to deal with the automated response of 'we don't support custom html' blah blah blah when this is obviously not an issue related to custom html but effecting all uploaded html pages and is extremely cripling to functionality. Is there a way that I can implement a fix on my end or do I have to contact support and have them do some sort of back end workaround for every single time I want to upload an html file?

Our engineers are looking into it, but I haven't heard anything else beyond that. How many pages of the site are you included the iframe on which references the html file? You could probably just copy everything between the <body></body> tags of your HTML file and use that in the Embed Code element instead of an iframe.

Same problem here. Just noticed a couple days ago. Themed pages work just fine (http://gmoor.weebly.com/), but if I click "Glen's Pools Page" on the home page, (link http://gmoor.weebly.com/files/theme/test/GlenPools.htm), it downloads. No good. Hope you can fix! Thanks!

If it helped people to build their sites , Why cannot that earlier action be reinstated ?
If HTML files are not to be loaded to THEMES, where else can they be uploaded ?

This is really too bad. I had high hopes for being able to use Weebly to create a membership only site where I could host custom html content (D3 documents, Google maps).
Why is this not allowed?
Are there other companies/solutions that can provide:
- hosting for custom html files
- membership only access to these files
Thanks. I'm probably going to end up leaving Weebly because of this limitation.

It is very sad and frustrating that the problem still persists
despite so many mails that clearly describe the issue
I will have to leave Weebly just due to this change from their side.

I have the same problem. I would like to continue to use weebly, but I will leave if you can't provide a fix.
How should we put our own HTML up on a Weebly site?
