Editor Access

Is there a way to limit Author access to view only selected pages? I don't want them to be able to see dashboard information, stats, and edit comments and form entries.

Hello @ETOT,

While there are various editor settings as described here, authorized editors will all have that access to the dashboard. There is not anything in place to restrict that.

When is the editor access feature, which amongst many other features avaiable in Weebly was promised in 2013, going to come to fruition for Weebly Designer accounts? Or is it ever going to?

A straight answer to this would be appreciated, for once.

@Schoolsware, here is the straightest answer I can give - I can't speak on whatever your understanding of this was in 2013. What I know now in 2016 is, the Designer platform is client-facing, not editor-facing. To the best of my knowledge, there are no plans in the foreseeable future for multiple client access. Having said that, this would be the perfect time for you to chime in and vote on this very topic as being discussed in our Idea Exchange:

Apologies, but I think you've either misunderstood or I didn't explain myself properly. What I meant was that in the standard weebly editor, you get an option where you can create multiple editors for a given website, each with their own logins and specific sections to edit if necessary. This is the feature that I was told would also be coming to those websites as created by the Designer platform. I'm already aware that there can be multiple editors in the designer backend as I use this feature.

@Schoolsware, I promise we are on the same page, it's just that the feature won’t be added in the foreseeable future. This is why it's so important to make your voice heard in the Idea Exchange. Our developers take your input very seriously in moving forward on investigating options for hotly requested features. The more people who express an interest, the more they will take notice. OK fair enough. However, that is a bit bizarre since a whole load of standalone features have been successfully ported over to the designer editor, (e.g. site memberships, e-commerce, etc) so I don't see why this would be any different?

@Brodie Would it be too difficult in adding a "Blogger" to the Admin, Editor and,
Moderator that would Log into the website as someone who is given access to a page does,
and the only thing that they could do is post blog posts? It could
be similar to how we are able to reply in the forums here.
Or could we add a button under the "Editor" that says "Allow desktop access"
or something along those lines? You guys seem to be very open to suggestions.

@ETOT, it's a perfect for our feature request section!

Editors now have access to the Dashboard which encompasses all forms submission. Please either restrict editors from the dashboard or create another add option for editors to go directly to their authorized pages only. After all, editors are supposed to be editors only and should not be able to see the details of any form submission. Thanks.

This issue has not been solved.  Just shelved!!!

I was shocked to find out (when an editor asked me for some help) after all this time that the editor access given to pages also gives them access to the dashboard forms! What is the point of the option "Dashboard Only" when "Author" gets to see all the forms anyways? There are sensitive and personal information being submitted on these forms (ie names, addresses, DOB, tel. #, medical conditions, etc) and it should have limited access. If these are patient information, it will be a HIPAA violation! I had to delete all the editors that should not be apprised to these forms and suspend them from updating their pages. Please give the option to limit access to forms or remove completely when the "Author" option is selected or have another option for "Author with Forms Access".
Thank you.
Ernest

Ernel822, since an authorized Admin, Editor, or Author has access to and rights to edit pages with contact forms on them, it follows that they would also have access to form entries on the Dashboard. If you believe there should be a different tier of authorization that would eliminate this, I suggest contributing that feature request to our idea exchange:

The issue for many is that the "author" permission level is too much like the "editor" level.

What is really needed is a "contibutor" level that only has the ability to edit text and maybe swap out images from the (currently non-existent) Weebly image library.

I have posted this as a feature request previously.
