Changing text colour not easy

Although I've got the palette and check a suitable colour, I never get the text to be that colour. I select the text and then check the colour, or sometimes use the colour 'spread'. No luck! It just stays more or less as is. What am I doing wrong?

Hey @ccryptogram! I'm guessing you're doing it this way already, but can you try following these exact steps:

1. Click in your text element

2. Select the word or words you want to change colors with

3. Click the A dropdown, then click on a color

4. Click into your text element again

Does that work for you?

No, Adam. Regrettably this does not work. That's my problem!

Ok. 😕  Can you try switching to another browser and trying the same steps?

I've tried in Chrome. Although that's better, it's still not consistent. One of the main issues seems to be whether a phrase or a word is a link. If it is, then it appears faint, and not necessarily in the right colour. Remove the link and it reverts to the right colour. In some cases it's not just the colour but also other aspects of formatting, bold for example. Maybe I ought to put the link onto a button rather than onto the wording. But I would see that as a workaround!.

Yeah the color change is totally broken. It should accept hex codes and automatically update. It does not do that. This means weebly is bad for company branding. It it can only accept basic colors most of the time. It should not be so difficult to change color.

It doesn't matter what browser you use.  The issue is with the product, not the user.

I too have difficulty changing text. I followed your steps, still couldn't get it to change.

Perhaps YOU need to change how it's done so us users can do it quickly and efficiently.

AND, PLEASE make the default color BLACK!!!

Hello midwestlady! Sorry for the trouble. As we need to recreate the issue before we can see what's causing it and clear it up, we do ask for details on how the site's being accessed, so we can get as close to what you're seeing there as possible. What text are you looking to change?

That only changes basic colors!

Do it by the selecter like the OP said. Or by hex number.

It does not change all the time.

So advice works for standard pallet but anything more is still broken.

Definately a problem its fine if you just want to use a colour that is available, if you want to create a colour its a pain in the neck, especially if you want to use that colour again, I would of thought it would be an easy job for the Weebly iT wizzards to correct.

Are you trying to change the color of specific words or all of your text, @Lynleawillan? If it's just a few words, is it a link or just regular text?

Adam,
I’m trying to change whole paragraphs and also sections of words. It is regular txt that I have typed most of the time.
I go to the colour palent and pick the colour I want and then the highlighting on the part of the paragraph or the whole paragraph I want to change, and the colour just disappears and the txt wont change colour at all. This seems to be no matter what browser I am using. I usually work in chrome but I have also tried Edge and Internet Explorer. They all produce the same result with the colour txt not changng at all.

Thanks for clarifying. Try selecting your text first before clicking on the text editing toolbar to change the color.

Hi Adam,

I’ve had a similar issue for quite a while with not being able to set or apply custom hex color to text. It doesn’t matter if I’m on a Mac or a PC (Windows 10), or really which browser I use.

Steps:

1. Select text to change

2. Click on A

3. Change the hex value or select the already set the hex value

4. Nothing happens

When I click on the custom color swatch or back in the text field the text gets unselected and remains as the undesired color. (That unselecting of the text may be a clue.)

Sometimes changing browsers (Edge, Firefox, Firefox Developer, Chrome, Opera, Safari) works. Usually it doesn’t. And, it’s frustrating for something as basic as changing text color to be an issue and so time consuming.

This issue is persistent and long term. It looks the A user interface for handling custom hex color needs rethinking.

I’d be happy to work one on one with a technical person to help figure out how to reliably recreate this on your end.

Thanks for detailing the steps. I have recreated this in the past, although I found that it would usually work properly once to change text color, but after that it would not unless I refreshed the browser. Is that the case for you as well?

OK, here's what I see.

Chrome:

Selecting the custom color field deselects the text. I then delete the hex value and replace it with the desired code. Pressing enter and clicking on the custom color swatch does in fact change the text color - the first time. And, the origianally highlighted text is once again hightlighted/selected. After that, a reload is required. Then start from the beginning again. It works, but it's a lot of work.

Edge:

Selecting the custom color field deselects the text. I then delete the hex value and replace it with the desired code. Pressing enter and clicking on the custom color swatch does not change the text color. And, the origianally highlighted text is no longer hightlighted/selected. The cursor sits at the very start of the text entry field. Reload and starting from the beginning again is of no help.

My Guess:

It's a problem with modality, and the text should stay visibly selected / highlighted when the color pallet / child window pops up. It's an issue where the focus is lost.

And furthermore, text that is linked does not seem to respond to the colour chart properly. E.g. I have several bits of text linked to other pages and the 'black' is merely grey.

Thank you for your feedback and question, Adam,

I've realised this is pretty much a Microsoft Edge problem, and they'll be swapping out their EdgeHTML engine for the Chromium engine next year.

I've switched to using Chrome for my site edits, and that works.

Also, given that MS Edge is swapping to the Chromium engine, it would be pointless to invest resources to fix this bug for EdgeHTML.

Best regards,

Michael
