Alternative text added to social media icons

What do you recommend for adding alternative text to the social media icon links so that screen readers will read that it is a "facebook link"  not just "link"?  It does not appear that you have the Alt text option as you do when adding an image in weebly.

Have you tried any of the social icon options in the App Center?

I'm not sure if they include ALT text for screenreaders but it's worth taking a look.

Thanks for the reply!  Unfortuantely, it is not included on the option  I tried in the App Center.

Ok, thanks for checking. There are other third party solutions that you could find via Google searches (e.g. "Embeddable Social Icons"). There are a few different popular choices out there and maybe one of those has them.

After further examining the code, I found that there is an alternative text listed but the HTML markup is not correct so the screen readers are not reading it.  A simple change to the correct alt text markup would fix this issue across the board.  The current markup is alt-text="facebook" and should be alt="facebook".

Ahh, yes, I see that. It seems like it could actually be a bug, since I don't think "alt-text" is a standard attribute in HTML. I've opened a ticket with our engineers to see if this is by design or if they can change it to ALT.

No problem! We've been working on adding ALT text and other accessibility improvements, so I'm sure this will get changed.
