The Use of Meta Tags
Keywords or search phrases, more commonly referred to as ‘Meta Tags’, basically announce what your website is about. They are the most crucial elements in planning out the basic website script, as they ultimately direct the visitors to your website.
The following are a few points to keep in mind before inserting such phrases or keywords in your web content:
- Keywords must be used as part of the basic text on your website, instead of only being used as key bullet points.
- The keywords or search phrases must always be used in the right context and should be used throughout the body of the text of your site.
- In case a Keyword does not fit in the existing site content, add in paragraphs or phrases where necessary in order to make them more adequately placed. However, the added text must always be pertinent to the topic and meaningful for the audience.
- Always use keywords or phrases that are relevant to your website. Use terms which pertain to your business or service or the basic ideology behind your website. This will help lead the visitors directly to the business.
- Think from your visitors’ perspective – use those words or phrases which will help them locate YOU and pick you from the rest of the competitors with ease.
- Each search phrase should be minimal of two words and must not exceed six words.
- Keep in mind, that a specific keyword or search phrase, will lead the target audience to countless other websites. Hence, it is advisable to use the most precise, yet exclusive terms. These will help you in being ranked as the most relevant to those keywords or search phrases as compared to other competitors. For instance:
Open or broad terms with the high competition: Cakes, Chocolate fudge, California bakeries.
Specific terms: Milano’s cookie cake; Middle Eastern bakeries in California.
- For the best results, always make use of search engine friendly keywords and search phrases.
