How do I change how my site appears on Google search?

Typing in site:English3000.org, I get terrible results.  Changing page names doesn't fix the poor formatting. => my ?

Hey @English3000!

I'd recommend adding titles and descriptions for the SEO Settings of the pages of your site, as well as in Settings > SEO.  It can take a while for Google to update it's index, though.  You might be able to speed this up some if you've set up your site with Google's webmaster tools.  They have a "fetch as Google" option which you can try using:

I remember trying to set up the Webmaster tools for my site; I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure I was unsuccessful.

This guide in our Help Center has instructions on how to set that up:

Thanks for this.  I did add titles and descriptions for the SEO Settings of the pages of your site, and that worked for a while.  For several weeks Google used the new title, but now Google suddenly switched back to calling the index.html page the name of the website rather than the name of the page.  Any idea why Google would switch it back even though we didn't change anything?
