Home page URL, /index.html and duplicate

Hi !

My home page seems to have 2 duplicates:

http://www.omanselfdrivetours.com

http://www.omanselfdrivetours.com/index.html

Anyway, both URL work. Is the first redirected to the second ?

When looking at the sitemap pages on Google search console, http://www.omanselfdrivetours.com/index.html status is "excluded" (whereas the other pages are "valid") and it says it is "Duplicate, submitted URL not selected as canonical".

http://www.omanselfdrivetours.com is not among the sitemap pages but when looking at all the known pages, it is among the "valid" pages as "Indexed, not submitted in sitemap".

I understand that Google decided that http://www.omanselfdrivetours.com should be the canonical page even if it is not in the sitemap. Isn't it a problem for SEO? Shouldn't we set the canonical page ourselves? And which one?

Logically, when I inspect http://www.omanselfdrivetours.com/index.html, the search console says "URL is not on Google". Should I request indexing or is it better this way?

@Bernadette  hi.   Tricky thing.   This    .index.html is some thing within weebly!

I set the canonical tag  on the HOME PAGE    to    https:// www.mysite.com    and just ignore any .index.html messages from Google  and it seems like Google Search Console   does not index the home page which is  weird and on going issue..

But i get good SEO on my site depsite these possible issues...

Hi @Paul_S,  agreeing with @whitemonkey here, the canonical is http://www.omanselfdrivetours.com and Google knows this. No need for further action.

Yo @marketgoo (and @Bernadette )     thanks for the thumbs up.. you are the professionals  and i am the amateur here ( as in unpaid but still know a fair bit... well enough that @Bernadette  pings me on most things SEO...  must be doing something right)
