want to add a side menu and when item clicked, it opens the link in a section next to the menu

I would like to add a side list/menu on a page, when item is clicked on that menu it will open the link inside a separate section on the same page. Everytime you click a link on that side menu it will open the new link inside that same section. Is that possible?  TIA.
