Shipping Rates Query

Hello all,

We're in the process of setting up an online store but we're having a few issues setting up the shipping rates.

Basically, we want to set up several flat rates which will relate to different items and then attach those to the respective items.

So, for instance: the shipping rate for a bag will be X, but the shipping rate for a coffee cup will be Y etc. I can figure out how to set-up flat rates, but what I can't do is figure out how to attach a rate to a specific item. Can this be done?

Thanks

Hi @Kinergy This isn't possible at the moment, but it has been submitted as a feature request. Unfortunately, I am unable to provide any sort of eta or confirm if it is something on the roadmap.

As a work around, you can add a flat rate shipping rule to the item by creating a required modifier on the Edit Item page. If someone orders multiple mugs, would they need to a shipping fee for each item, or would it be one flat rate fee per order?

Thanks. This is not quite what we were after, but I understand what you mean. Thanks!

Hello. I will offer free shipping in UK but need to assign specific shipping rates for other regions to each product.

If I use modifiers to set shipping rates, what do I then need to do with the overall shipping rate set-up? Should I set all regions to 'free shipping'? I don't know if the 'free shipping' shows up on the product page, or if it simply means that no shipping costs are applied. Obviously I don't want it to say free shipping and then have a customer outside the UK have to select a shipping cost.

Alternatively, is it possible to not set up any shipping rates at all, and only use the modifiers? Or would customers then receive a message that shipping wasn't available?

Hi @ckirkmarketing You would have to setup shipping otherwise, free shipping would appear on checkout. Creating a "free shipping" rule will not show up on the product page. What regions will you be shipping to and can you let me know one of your items that has shipping setup as a modifier?

We haven't set up a shipping rate modifier for any items yet. I'm trying to figure out the best way for us to manage this. I want to make sure it will work.

We are willing to ship anywhere, as long as we can find a way to apply sufficient and fair shipping costs. None of the existing shipping options work for us, as shipping rates are affected by size and shape, not just weight.

My plan is:

- Work out shipping costs for each product for a set number of broad regions - for example, UK, Europe, USA/Canada, rest of the world (ie not the same as Weebly's more specific regions).

- Use the Modifiers to set up these prices for each item.
- The customer would then select their region, and the shipping cost we've assigned to that product for that region would get added to their order.

However, in addition to using the Modifiers feature, I believe we still need to tell Weebly's ecomm engine that we ship to that customer's region (from Weebly's list of regions). My client has been told that if we don't set up any shipping rate for a region, a customer from that region would see a 'we don't ship to your region' message.

This is where I'm still confused. Do I need to add every single region we are willing to ship to from Weebly's list, and set it to 'free shipping'? And can you confirm that the customer won't see a 'free shipping' offer - they will only see the

modifiers we've set up?

Thank you.

Thanks. I'm pretty sure I understand what you mean, however, I'm a little confused on the checkout flow. For example, if I order 3 items to be delivered to the US and the shipping fee is setup as a modifier for each item, I will be charged 3 times for shipping? Or is this what your intentions were to begin with? Is there a reason why you do not want to use the shipping calculator? I understand you are trying to calculate based on weight and dims, but does your shipping service have variable rates depending on the ship to address? To confirm your last question, no, it will not automatically say "free shipping". You can title the rule whatever you like and the title (along with $0.00) will show as an option.

Hi Bernadette. Yes, they would have 3 shipping fees applied for 3 items. It's definitely not ideal. Smiley Sad

However, none of the options available via Weebly would allow for an accurate price:

Free shipping - this is okay for the UK since we can incorporate shipping into the item price, but not for international.

Order weight - an item could be light but very large - size and shape affect pricing as well as weight

Flat rate - doesn't make sense since a shipping cost could vary considerably

Order Total - doesn't make sense as you could have a small expensive piece of jewellery vs a large much cheaper painting - the painting would cost more to ship.

Item Quantity - shipping is not based on number of items, but by size and weight.

Additionally, with the list of regions, you can select individual countries or 'rest of world' but nothing in between. So in the UK, to keep things simple, we could for example set up a price for United States and rest of world - but then someone in Europe would be charged the same as someone in Asia.

We would be perfectly happy to just deal with international shipping offline, and message people on our website to contact us, but we have been told that if we do not set up a shipping rate for a country, customers who miss our messaging and still place an item in the cart will see a message that we do not ship to their region. Given that the shipping options outside the US are extremely limited, can we override that message?

How do other non US sellers on Weebly deal with these challenges for international shipping?

Does your shipping company charge by the billable weight? Billable weight is the greater of the actual weight or the dimensional weight. Meaning, if you have a very light item in large packaging, you could calculate the dimensional weight and then use that as the item weight in the editor. When someone orders the item, the weight-based rate would be the actual package size and not the weight of the item. Does that make sense? This would only work, though, if your carrier rates function this way..

Can you confirm what you mean by "you can select individual countries or 'rest of world' but nothing in between"? What is the in between you are looking for?

Hello,

I am having the same issue. One of my wooden flags costs roughly $45 to ship whereas my small cross costs $5. It would be unreasonable to set a flat rate covering both of these items. Is there a way to have separate shipping rates assigned to each item??

Thank you,
Whittling Roots

Are you setting up manual rates or using our real-time shipping option, @WhittlingRoots? If you are just setting up manual rates then I would set them up based off of weight, and then enter weights for the items. That should ensure that they are using appropriate shipping rates for each. If you're using real-time shipping, then the weight and box size for each should ensure proper postage.

Thanks for responding. We are not using real time rates, but we need different rates for each item. I have a Wooden Cross that is the size of a piece of paper and a Large flag that is 37x19.5". Is it possible to set a shipping rate (real time or otherwise) for individual items?

Thank you,

It isn't possible per-item at the moment, though weight-based rates would help cover the difference in postage since a piece of paper is obviously much lighter than a large flag.

Hi Adam, can I find out if there is a way to ask Shippo to handle the shipping side? How does that work if I want to bring Shipping in to weebly?
