How do I remove the white space on either side of a vertical video?
Hello!
I have a video on my homepage that is verticle and I would like to remove the extra space on either side of it. Any idea how to do this? The margin options are only for the top and bottom, not the sides.
Thanks so much!

Were you looking to make your video a lot taller so it fills the full width of the page, @Fitnfree?

I have the same question. I have a vertical video, and I want to remove the space on either side of the video. The HD Video widget seems to only want to place horizontally oriented videos. Is there a way to elimate the spaces or make the orientation vertical? I'd like to fill the column they're placed with regular margins on all sides.

Were you going to place other content to the sides of the video, @COFS_Admin, or did you just want the video to be aligned fully to the left like other content?

I have content next to the videos, which are placed in a column at the right. Because the aspect ratio seems to be locked horizontally, my video image is super small and there's a bunch of space right and left of the video. It looks the same on the mobile version too. I want to keep the column at the right smaller than the column at left without making the inserted videos being so small.

You can hover between the elements and then slide the blue vertical line over more to the right. I should make the right hand column more narrow and give the video element more space.

I know how to resize a column, and I don't want to make the columns a different size. I simply want to remove the extra space around the video. There are spaces almost as wide as the video itself to the right and left. I don't want empty spaces, just narrow margins. In the screen shot, you can see the outline perimeter of the HD video element. If I placed a video that was horizontally oriented, there would be no extra spaces around it. How do I do the same for a vertically oriented video?

I'm so sorry. I completely misunderstood your question. I think this is the default view for a video in portrait mode. Do you see the same margins if you add a video element without anything next to it?

Yes, there is always a space on both sides, regardless of where it is placed (in a column or by itself on the page). Is there a way to insert a vertical video without these spaces on either side? It looks terrible and I have a say in how the videos are made and sometimes they're vertical and sometimes they are horizontal. I would just like them to be able to have the same margins.

I don't believe it is possible. Do you know if it looks like this if you were to upload it to Youtube or Vimeo? You could use the Embed Code element to add a video hosted third party.

We don't have a Vimeo or YouTube account, so I'm not sure what it looks like on those platforms.

Hi again, @COFS_Admin. It should look similar on both, but they may provide you with more display options. With either service you'll be including it using the Embed Code element, which won't automatically have a bunch of padding.

Just to follow up. We did create a YouTube account and downloaded our videos, but we had the same problem. The YouTube widget also wants to make a horizontal preview. Once the end user selects it, YouTube opens and it the vertical or horizontal positioning is determined by their hardware (smart phone vs. computer/tv screen). In the end, I grabbed a screen shot of the video and posted it to my site as an image, then linked the YouTube video. It looks better (see below), but I would prefer that my users be able to stay on my site to watch these clips. I just can't find a solution to the issue to make it work that way.

I have exactly the same issue. Seriously, Weebly, you gotta fix this! 😅👌
If you can set the aspect ratio of photos, surely you should be able to do the same with videos...

I am having that same issue! It's so frustrating that we cannot adjust the side margins/padding.
