How do I change default country code for tel. on my webshop ?

Hi Weeblies 😉
Our webshop is based in Denmark (EU), however for the customers, the phone number is always set to US in country code. Is it possible to change that to e.g. DK, so that the customer does not have to scroll down to choose a correct country code?

Kind regards,
Stig

Click and collect, we are operating a takeaway restaurant. This country code is very confusing for the customers and will result in lost sales.

Hi,  I want to add my vote on this.   We sell cheese in Australia - we will never be in a position to freight it across the world and really reeally need to have Australia as the only delivery option....  It bugs all of our customers that the US is the default delivery option.

P.S. Donald Trump is a moron.

Thanks again for your feedback. At this time it is only updating for physical items that are shipped. We can let the teams know that it would be useful to have this change made for pickup option and for digital/service type goods that don't require a mailing address.

Bernadette,

I'm in Australia, I don't get why I have to go all the way to the bottom to change the country before it brings up Australian number and states.  I'm a florist I'll never send anywhere but NSW.   Also can I change any text on the check out, it says "shipping address" and I'd like it to say "Recipients Address" so that it isn't so confusing for customers

Thanks for posting, @Evie073. There isn't a way right now to change the default state and country, although this feedback has been suggested to us by other customers so hopefully it's a change we can make.

New user... really looking forward to this being updated soon.

Just add it to Checkout / Advanced Settings like you do for currency...

Good evening, I have the same problem.
I ship food to Italy and when my customers set the shipping country, the United States are set by default, although the language of my site is set in Italian. Furthermore, I consider it illogical to choose first the state and then the country. it should be the other way around, which confuses my customers. Same thing goes for the area code which is automatically set in American

Besides this problem, I need to have the tax code of my customers to correctly invoice the orders. However, as I have already mentioned to the support, it is not possible to add an additional field during the purchase phase.

I hope action will be taken soon, errors will be fixed and these improvements implemented, because these shortcomings prevent me from carrying out my e-commerce activities correctly.

I look forward to updates waiting for a fix as soon as possible

Hi Bernadette,

It seems the request to be able to change the default country has been requested for some time now. It seems like a very basic requirement. I too am an Australian business and do not ship outside of Australia. To have the United States as the default country is ridiculous and very common for US centric businesses who fail to understand there is a world outside the United States. My customers are contacting me to confirm if I am an Australian business. This is not acceptible. Can you please provide some timeline as to when this will be resolved as I can't just keep on waiting. If it's not currently on the roadmap for the next 3 months, please let me know so that I can take my business elsewhere like Shopify who seem to have their act together.

Thanks,

Scott

Hi Scott. Thanks for the feedback. I'm sure our engineers and product teams would love to be able to release updates to the product within days if they could. Unfortunately, some changes are more complex and require more time and testing to make sure they will 1) work as intended and 2) not break something currently active causing sites to not function properly. I believe this feature is coming very soon, though, if not already live on your site!

Update, @scooter16 Looks like this is available now. When I visit your site, the checkout page automatically defaults to AU. Smiley Happy

Good morning,

I saw that the checkout form was updated and the correct country address is automatically pre-set. Very well, thanks.

however there is still no possibility to insert a mandatory line to be filled in during checkout data entry that allows the customer to provide me with his / her tax / VAT code.

As I have explained several times to your support, in Italy by law we need to have this information to correctly process the order.

I ask you again to implement the possibility of having an additional field for the tax / VAT code during checkout.

Thanks.

Hi Bernadette,

This is happening too on my site. Except that the phone number and country always revert to the UK as default and not Australia where I'm based. Can you please look into this?

Hi @dlee8 The majority of the account logins are coming from a UK ip address. Since the site was created in the UK the default country on checkout is the UK. Once you change the country, though, the phone prefix will automatically update. Do you use a vpn when connecting to the internet?

Thanks Bernadette for the reply. I don't recall using a VPN to access the account. Is it possible to change the default country once the website has been created?
