App Diagnostics

Hi

Is there a way to tell if an App is tampering with the site as a whole, i.e radically slowing down the SIte Editor, freezing pages etc?

I had to remove Color Block from my site some time ago as it was impacting unrelated content (as in completely deleting it) and I am wondering if a) there is a way to diagnose which apps (if any) are causing issues; and b) if there are any Apps I need to be wary of using?

I use the following Apps:

Content Color Box

H1 Tags

Carouselstar

Accordion Toggle

Group

News Headlines

Simple Table

The Tabs (Baamboo Studios version)

I also have a Global Sidebar set up via custom coding.

As an aside I have done all the usual things vis a vis improving browser performance - uninstalling/reinstalling, reset PC to factory conditions, undertaking a variety of CMD changes & browser preference tweaks. As of yet I have not disabled my firewall (this is a personal PC not an office one) largely because this issue seemed to happen very quickly (telling me this is either related to an App or a Windows Update, for example) and it worked perfectly fine before when the firewall was still activated.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Just to add to this, I have the same issue with every browser I use: Chrome, Canary, Firefox & Brave. I am always in Incognito mode and I make sure it is the only application open, aside from maybe having a Word document open. It works fine for a while then it freezes up and I have to restart it again. So this is either an issue with my PC or with something in my site itself....

Hi - it's www.re-made.life

Just to clarify, it's not the site that's playing up- it's the Site Editor. But again, any help appreciated and thanks for stepping up 🙂

Do you notice any pages that take longer to load?

HI

When I am in Site Editor it can be any page as at first I thought I was just overloading pages with content but the dragging/freezing would happen on pages with hardly anything on it all. I have a Building Page in my Editor where I can create content quicker and by design I keep it pretty empty and it happens there too, which is why I am wondering if this is to do with an App, the Sidebar (CSS) OR this is an issue with my PC, which is highly likely. I just can't seem to be able to figure it out for sure and I don't want to just run out and by another laptop if that isn't the issue...

Does that happen in any browser you use?

Hi - yes it does - Firefox, Chrome, Canary & Brave (Incognito mode for all).

They all work fine at first and then it might be as little as 10-15 minutes l later that it starts to freeze up, takes an incredibly long time to copy/move elements etc and there is a very long delay after me clicking on an element before it acknowledges that anything has happened. For example if I have a button and I want to name it and add a link that process can be torturously difficult.

I am thinking it might be to do with my PC but as I said before I would like to make sure it is not anything in the Site Editor itself before I get an upgrade.

Do you see the same behavior when you try to load a different site in your account not using apps? Also, do you have a different device you can test out? Your phone or a friend's computer? That could be a quick and easy way to determine where the lag is happening.

Hi Bernadette - thanks for the idea and I will check out a simpler site I have later when I get back from work. I don't really have easy access to another machine, or at least the other one in the house has far less RAM and is  older so will be a bit slower anyway. Thanks again.

Hi - it is the Apps. if I didn't have any apps it would work like magic but that isn't very practical, so I need to figure out what my options are....

You might try removing apps one at a time to see which is causing the issue, assuming it's a single app and not due to the total number of apps on a page.

Hi Adam - yes I had thought of that but the reason for starting this thread in the first place was to see if there was a way to diagnose the issue without having to do mass deletions, ie I use Content Color Box on every single page and it is not possible remove them, same goes for Accordion Toggle, for example.

When I am in Chrome I get a bit more detail about the issue with an alert about what specifically is slowing things down and it is the builder Weebly uses, editmysite (see pic). Is there any way to access this to see what is going on and which of the many Apps I am using (including Weebly apps like Contact Form) is causing it problems?

Hi - just to add, since I have been working in Chrome, that alert (regarding editmysite.com being unresponsive) has popped up at least 6-7 times (over a space of about 15 minutes) and it happens when I try and open a page within Site Editor & move element from the dashboard onto the page or from one part of a page to another.

My street is undergoing a bandwith upgrade this week which I thought might help with things but this seems to be telling me that even if things are fine on my end, that won't make much of a difference if editmysite.com can't cope with what I have on my page.

The thing is, I need the site to have a fair bit of stuff on it, I need a global sidebar, drop down menus (accordion toggle), boxed content, lots of images etc so I guess my Q is this: are there any alternatives to working this way?

Using the Web Inspector in Chrome could potentially tell you what is slowing things down, although there are many different ways that something could present through it so it would take a bit of investigation.

Hi Adam - thanks for that,  I do use Inspect Element a lot but I have not used the Console so thank you for that and I will see what I can fix based on its report.

I have just tried it now on a few random pages to see what was coming up that Weebly might be able to advise on and there are quite a few that are related to editmysite.com:

1. This comes up a few times in a single page (I don't have a store btw on my site as far as I know):

Source map error: request failed with status 404 Resource URL: https://cdn2.editmysite.com/js/store-app/main.js?buildTime=1549326559 Source Map URL: main.js.map[Learn More]

2. This is flagged in red indicating a serious issue?:

Failed to execute 'postMessage' on 'DOMWindow': The target origin provided ('https://9336329-937995780906458831.preview.editmysite.com') does not match the recipient window's origin ('https://www.weebly.com').

3. Source map error: request failed with status 403 Resource URL: https://cdn2.editmysite.com/javascript/aragorn-analytics-3.0.1.js Source Map URL: fullLibraryCDN.js.map[Learn More]

4. "Unreachable code after return statement"

This can come up 5+ times on a page and is referring to cdn2.editmysite.com/js/editor/main-with-commerce (+ various numbers at the end as per the pic below):

I did some time ago try to set up a Store and then decided against it. As far as I know I deleted everything and I have just gone into Store now and it is empty. If an issue is that Weebly is still trying to access it, is there anything I can do on my end to disable that?

Is it better to submit a Support ticket for this btw to get the tech team on it? Am not sure if I have strayed out of bounds in terms of the Community side of things....

Otherwise is there anyone in Weebly (or recommended third parties) that I can hire to access my site and clean up the code etc if that is also the problem? Very happy to pay for this so if there is anyone who can do that I would be very interested to talk to them.

Thanks again

Same here. Both my sites is fine but I can hardly use the site editor and it's been going on for a while now.
