Instruction for using Register.com Domain with Weebly
I had a custom server run by a local guy. I tried to follow the instructions by Weebly on how to use an existing Domain, but they did not fit Register.com the way I was seeing the screens. So, I called Register and got help. I am putting the process here to be helpful. Also, I have 2 Domains, so this will also include how to point a secondary Domain to your primary Domain on Register.com.
Goto your Register.com site and login.
1) From the menu along the top of their screen, goto Domain/My Domains and you will be on the Domain Manager page, and your Domain should be displayed in the list.
2) Click on your Domain name in the list.
you should now see 3 basic fields, 1) Domain Settings 2) DNS Settings 3) Associated Services.
3) If the text under the DNS Settings title says "This domain is using our DNS" then goto 4).
Under DNS Settings, select the Edit button on the DNS Servers IF the text under the title DOES NOT say "This domain is using our DNS". If it says you have a Custom DNS, then you need to open the Edit button on DNS Servers. Once open, ignore the items you see and select the button "Our DNS". This will erase any custom DNS settings you had. If you have a Custom DNS, and you don't change, you won't see the next screen you are looking for and will be stuck. You may wish to screen shot or write down what it was in case you want to go back. Once done, select the Save Changes button at the bottom and wait for the acknowledgement to appear.
After 3), you may get taken back to the main menu, so re-select the Domain/My Domains and you will be back on the Domain Manager page.
4) Select the Edit button under Host Records. You will then see the screen, similar what Weebly wants you to see in their instructions. However, there are 3, not 2, line items: www, @, and *. What you do now, you do for all 3.
5) Hit the Clear button per line.
6) Select 'A' under the Type column.
7) Under the Address column, enter the IP number (199.34.228.59).
😎 Save Changes- you are done. This will take around 4 hours or so for the action to take effect, according to the help desk at Register.com when I was getting walked through.
If you have a secondary Domain, that you want to be forwarded to your primary Domain that you are using to point to your Weebly site, do this:
1) goto Domain/ My Domains and get to the Domain Manager page.
2) Click on your secondary Domain name
3) similar to the above procedure. item 3), insure that the DNS Servers says "This domain is using our DNS"
4) click Edit on Host Records section.
5) use the Clear button on all 3 line items: (www, @, *)
6) Under the Type column, select 'URL Forward' for all 3 line items
7) under the Address column, type the "www.mysite.com" (name of your primary web site) on all 3. (same text, all 3 lines)
😎 hit the Save Changes button at the bottom. you are done. Again, it can take several hours to take effect.
Once I got the walk through, it was easy, but never having done it before, I did not know about the "our DNS" part being needed to get through it.

Changing my domain from Bluehost to Weebly. I'm on Bluehost DNS Zone Editor. What do I put under Host Record? I have no clue what that is. The definition says it can be ftp, but how do I know what protocol they use?

Have you checked our guide on DNS changes, @celticjaneite?

If you aren't sure from that, can you get a screenshot of what you're seeing?
