making a customer tax exempt

I am sort of new to this board, my husband has died and so I'm taking over.  I want to make a customer tax exempt rather than make every item they buy tax exempt.  Has this been discussed before? Is it possible?

Welcome back to the Community, @GlassJudy - 

Right now, there isn't an option available to add "Tax Exempt" status to your Customers, but this is excellent feedback on the feature. 

I want to get this over to our Product Team, so they can look into the possibility of something like this in the future. 

It would make it a lot easier instead of making the whole item tax exempt, like you mentioned.
