How to edit the memo section on customer profiles?

Before the latest update there was a "memo" section on the customer profile, that option is now gone and a "notes" section is near the bottom of the profile, but we used the memo section very often before and it still shows in the new customer profile but we can not edit it.

Hey @CashsCleaners,

Thanks for surfacing. To be sure I'm on the same page—while you can't edit the placement of the notes field, you should be able to edit the content of it from your Directory tab > select the text of the note > enter edits into the text box pop-up > Save.

Does that help clear things up? Please let me know if I'm missing the mark and we'll be happy to take another look. In addition, I'll be sharing your feedback about the placement of the notes section with our Point of Sale team.

I understand the "notes" section, what I'm asking about is the "memo" section that was in the customer profile before the update that removed it.

I'm still seeing things that were typed into the "memo" section in the past, they show up under customer profile, but I have no way to edit them.

Ah, I think I got it—are you referring to the "Other" field in the Personal Information section? To edit or remove those details, you should be able to select Edit below the customer's name > scroll down to "Other" within the pop-up box > make changes > Save. If that doesn't take care of this, can you send a screenshot of the field that's stuck to our Customer Success team or to me via private message? I want to be sure we're in the same view.

This memo was added before the recent update. The memo section is now gone in the new layout, when I hit the edit the button now it doesn't give me the option to edit "memo"

Sorry to keep you waiting, @CashsCleaners! It looks like I was focused on the online Square Dashboard earlier. Thanks for these screenshots—I see what's going on in the Point of Sale app: you can edit the Memo field in the online Square Dashboard and those changes will be reflected in the Point of Sale app, but there is no option to make the change from the app itself.

I apologize for the confusion. I'm going to run this by a member of our Point of Sale team for more clarity. In the meantime, if it's not a possibility for you to make these changes from your online Square Dashboard, you can track the customer details by adding or editing in the Notes section from the app.

Appreciate your continued patience with this.

Circling back here with a bit more information: I was able to touch base with our Customer Engagement team and it looks like the Notes section is replacing the Memo field. Again, I apologize that this change catches you off guard—rest assured that I've shared your experience with the appropriate team members. We definitely do not want to introduce anything that would negatively impact your workflow. Going forward, I suggest using the Notes option or a custom field.

Hope this helps make things more clear. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

I dislike this new update as well.  The memo section is easily apparent without having to scroll down for quick notes that may be needed for each customer.  Having  to scroll multiple screens down to the Notes section is incredibly inconvenient, and it takes up customer time and decreases the flow at the customer interface.  And simply not being able to edit it at the POS is silly...if it's there in the customer profile on the POS, make it editable please.  Then it can be done at the customer interface instead of having to make a note of it and come into the back end at some later time and have another task.  And it makes no sense to have this "other" section separate from the "other" section that actually appears when you press Edit Customer...that is counterintuitive.

Hi @Tom,

Is there any way to delete the old memos from customer's profiles?

Hi @Tom ,

I made memos on customers (and still take notes) to keep track of customer credits and other small reminders.  I need to be able to edit and delete them.  My team uses these to keep track of credited accounts, so curretnly those old credit memos need to be removed and updated.

thanks!

Hey Paul, thank you for taking the time to reply with that information—I'll be sure to surface your experience with the appropriate team members. For now, you can hide the old Memo field.

To do this, go to Configure Profiles > Visible Fields > Memo > toggle off. After that, the field will be invisible to your employees.

Hope this helps! Please don't hesitate to let us know if any other questions or concerns remain.

Circling back here—apologies for the wait. I was able to raise your post to the appropriate team members and point out how the inability to configure the memo field is impacting your workflow. Right now the ability to hide or delete this field isn't available, though they are working to clear this up. I wasn't able to access a specific timeline, though we will announce any updates as they come through.

Thanks for your patience as we work to streamline this part of the Customer Directory. Keep in touch!
