Using gift card for partial payment or adding a tip when paying w gift card
Question 1: a client comes in with a $120 gift card. Her massage is $140 and she want to add a $20 tip making the total $160. How do I handle this?
Question 2: Let’s say the client has a gift card for 120 but isn’t positive of the gift card amount and wants to add gratuity. the cost of the massage is $120. They swipe the gift card waiting for the tip screen and poof sale finished! No tip,prompt. If the gift card equals the item I am selling they are never promoted and I lose out every time. Or embarrassingly I must reverse the entire sale and help them figure out the math separately before proceeding a second time

Let’s say I’m charging a client for a massage. The massage is $150. They walk in with a $100 gift card. When it’s time to check them out my square payment system shows my $150 charge and they are being prompted for payment. They swipe the gift card and are alerted there is only $100 remaining and they need to enter another form of payment for the $50 balance . they enter their second form of payment and depending upon what it is they are either not prompted for a tip at all or the tip is applied to only the portion paid by credit card. Isn’t there someway the tip prompt can come up before payment is entered ?

Hi @SMW. Appreciate you checking in. Regrettably there isn't a setting or workaround to make this tipping/gift card situation more functional. I can see how that would make for an awkward customer encounter if they're not able to tip after using the full amount of a gift card. I ran this by our Product Team to see if there's anything in the works to make this a better seller and customer experience but I haven't heard back yet. If I do I will let you know.
Thanks again for sharing your struggle here. I know you're not alone in this particular situation so hopefully this feature request can gain some traction.
