Square for a non-profit - setting up online store for donations

Can I use square to accept donations/gifts of money for a project without being a non profit? 

I do not have a non profit, nor a business but people want to give me money as a gift thru their debit/credit cards for a project I am working on... 

Is this possible...  they are not asking for tax deduction - but giving it as a gift.

Hello @MaryKristi! While you can use Square to accept donations as part of a charity or nonprofit organization, you can't use it to accept gift payments. You should only accept card payments in exchange for goods sold or services provided. 

You might be interested in Cash App instead. With Cash app friends, family members or donors who have the app can send you funds, or you can share a link to your unique Cash.me page and people can make payments using a debit card online.
