Retail Store using Square
We are a Retail Store switching to Square POS. We are debating whether we need Square for Retail or can capitalize on what Square POS has to offer. Is anyone able to lend their experience to advising our transition? We are a single location. Thank You!

Hello.. As a fellow small business owner of a retail store I feel that I can answer your questions. Been using square for about 5 years and upgraded to the stand when it came out. My store has thousands of sku's or items and I do my own tag printing with the use of other software and a laser printer. It is a little more work because of inputting the inventory into two software platforms which is why from time to time I think ubout upgrading, but everything about it works well so I really don't have a reason to switch. There is the shiny new device they have come out with called Square Register which I have thought about..
Pros for switching to Square Register
- New system with a screen that faces the customer
- Ability to handle purchase orders and inventory
- Ability to print tags from the square platform
Cons for switching to Square Register
- Costs $1000 while I already own the stand and all readers
- The 2.5% fee plus 10 cents actually raises my costs when compared to the Point of Sale swipe rate.
- Setting up new product UPCs for existing items
Let me know how you feel about your situations. We can often learn from each other.
All the Best!
