Hey @kabebe2007-

Thanks for posting in the Seller Community!

There are a few steps to complete in order to receive a corrected 1099k from Square:

1. Update your business taxpayer information from your Square Dashboard. You'll need to ensure that the system accepts the tax identification number and name combination.

2. After editing your information and clicking Save, the 1099-K form for the current tax year will automatically update. You can confirm this by downloading the form available on that page. If you're getting an error message, please double check with your EIN assignment letter if you're not using your name and SSN.

3. If you still need to correct a form from 2015 or earlier, you'll also need to provide us with a copy of a bank statement which shows deposits from Square to your business during the year(s) that you need corrected (IRS requirement).

You'll want to make sure that your bank statement clearly shows these things:

1. Official bank letterhead with your bank's logo
2. The bank holder's name and address (which needs to match the name on the updated Form 1099-K)
3. The bank account number or the last 3 digits of the account if you're using a credit union
4. Deposits from Square in the same year as your requested 1099-K correction

Once you've located and gotten a digital copy of this statement, just reach out directly so we can get this process started with our Tax Team.

Thanks again!

We sell christmas trees and have up to 6 different lots.  For some reason when we set them up, my daughter-in-law's information was included on 3 out of 5 lots for 2020.  The company is set up under Alpine Christmas Trees, LLC with correct TIN and address information.  She is receiving 1099's for the lots under her name.  We need to go back and amend this for the last 4 years.  How do we do this?

I keep trying to get it solved, yet you don't help.  They keep saying things about my address.  Why are they ok issuing me a 1099 for 2020 with my address the way it is but not correct a 2019 because of my address.  It's one excuse after another.  We are the paying customers, why won't you help??

What do I do if the 1099 has my personal information instead of the company I work for? I have tried to update the information with the company EIN, but it won't allow me to. When I signed dup it asked for my social, not the company's info, not the tax form looks as if it was for my personal gain not the company I work for. How do I correct for 2021?

Hi @Apesro - Welcome to The Seller Community, it's always nice to see a new face 😊

Great Question.

The fastest way to resolve this is to contact customer support so that this issue can be escalated to our tax team right away for correction.

Required Documentation for this process to be completed:

At least one (1) month's worth of Bank Statements from the year the 1099-K is issued. Information on the bank statements need to match the business information on file. If your company used multiple bank accounts during a single tax year, they will need to provide a bank statement for each one.  For example, if you've made deposits in x000 during January 1 2021 - May 2021 and then switched bank accounts to x111 for June 2021 - December 2021, we will need one bank statement for each account during those time periods.

  • Official Bank Statements are required - screenshots of online bank statements will not be accepted. You can download their official bank statements from the bank's website.
  • You would need to provide statements from ALL bank accounts that Square deposits were sent in a tax year. This is common with sellers who switch banks mid-year.
  • Bank Statements need to show deposits coming from Square.
  • Bank statements must be in a PDF format, and must be the full bank statement for that/those month(s)

Phone support is available Monday - Friday 6 AM - 6 PM PST. The telephone number is (855)700-6000.

📌 NOTE: The IRS gets notified of the change to a 1099-K right away. However, it could take up to 8 weeks for the change to take in effect.

As always, feel free to stop by The Community with question, concerns and even feature requests. We are more than happy to assist.

They are going to keep messing with you, but don't give up.  They will tell you to hire a tax attorney, that won't work.  You have to keep opening new cases until you get a competent person on the other end which is few and far between.  Keep sending the information they ask for, they will keep shooting you down.  Don't give up.  Eventually you will get it changed.  It took me months but when I finally found a competent person, they fixed it right away as if it was nothing.

Good day,

I opened a Square account under my social security number instead of my company's EIN number and it has been reporting my sales to the IRS as personal income from 2017-2019. I have since updated it but how can I get revised 1099's for the previous years with the correct EIN information?

Why is it that nobody is responding to my comments in this thread?  Why?

I am in serious tax trouble because square would not correct my 1099k.

It was issued under my social instead of the business ID.

I spent 4 months going back and forth with agents and my issue was not resolved.

They don't care at all.

Good luck and if you get anywhere let me know.

Hey, I finally got it handled, no thanks to the moderators on here who NEVER answered me.  Square management, didn't help either.  This is by far the worst platform I've ever used to handle my transactions and I will not be using them again.  If I can be of any help to you, please reach out.  Maybe I can shed some light on it for you to get you through this frustrating time.

How were you able to get it fixed? I have one right now that went to my SSN as opposed to the booster club that I was volunteer treasurer for. The bank didn't have our correct name on the account and it was corrected and then the bank changed our account number. So since the name on the bank account (which was exclusively for the booster club) had 2 different names Square won't help me because they refer to that as a split 1099-k.

I am in the middle of this battle now. No email response and the customer support team keeps telling me to “wait”.
How did you finally get it resolved? I would appreciate any assistance.

You literally have to keep contacting them over and over again till you get a competent person.  It will take many incompetent people before you get to someone who can help.  Every time they close it out, you start the process over again.  Don't let them push you around, you pay them.
