My Square cellphone app is darkened and unaccessible with "Waiting" below it so I'm unable to access Square although this weekend is very busy for processing credit card payments on my cellphone. Why does Square require WiFi connection and how do I get WiFi connection?

It sounds like the app started downloading and didn't finish or has an update pending. Connect to a wifi source and then tap the Square icon to see if it starts downloading for you. It may be that your phone is set up to only download while on wifi. In general, however, Square doesn't require wifi, just a data signal on your phone.
