Can I move the item grid on a tablet?

Unfortunately I don't think you can.  I thought it was possible while in the item editing mode in the grid layout but it seems all you can do is rename the tabs.

This seems like such a small request. As you expand and grow your products/services, inevitably you're going to need to move things around. I was actually very surprised to find this wasn't possible. Is it something in the works? I honestly feel like it was just an oversight, I really expected this to be an option.

@hundleybk You can move items between the different pages of grids, but you can't rearrange an entire page. To move an item to a different grid, tap and hold down on the item and drag it to the bottom of the screen. Release the item over the number or label for that page and the item will move to that page. 

I'll share your request with our engineers to be able to move an entire grid page! I agree that would be handy!

Hi @Helen any news on this? It is super-frustrating when you need to add a new page and it is the last page but needs to be the 2nd page on the POS! I need to create like 15 more pages and arrange them according to their purpose and I do not relish having to delete everything off of all the existing pages - plan very, very carefully what needs to go on page 1 through 15, then start adding things to pages, hoping I don't screw anything up - or decide it would work better set in a different manner...

We've started using the pages function on the POS to separate our products and services to allow for one button selection and for descriptions to be added - as variants do not allow for descriptions. Question now is - how do we rearrange the pages that we make if we want to move the 5th page to be now the 2nd? I have tried to push and hold and drag but that does not seem to work... Please advise.

I've moved your post over to this existing thread, as a few others have asked about this as well so it sounds like it's gaining some momentum among sellers. 

You're not able to rearrange the pages themselves, but I agree that would be super helpful feature. 

Would this type of change help with a specific business need or workflow that you have? Or was it more of just saving time when moving items around in general?

It's a definite business need - as part of what we offer is bar service - and mixed drinks. In order for a bartender to know what to mix - per the build provided - they have to scroll to to wherever the Item Description or Notes is feeling like sitting for that item - and it causes a lot of time to be wasted - since we are already adding mutliple modifiers to each drink - it is essential for us to be able to set what sits where.

@Kassi_ Any word? We would definitely love to see this as an option for the POS - especially as we add new item categories to our offerings. Currently - we have started offering food again, and now we need to move entires pages forward or backwards in the list.

I have a hole in my main grid with items on a second grid how do I get an item from that 2nd grid to the main grid?

I noticed it's your first post, welcome to our community! 

You can edit your grid by pressing, and holding down on any of the items in your favourites list. While you can't drag and drop an item from one page, to another, you can delete the item from the 2nd page, and add it to the first page instead by tapping on an empty Square with a +.

What is the status / ETA on rearranging grid item tabs? We had "Beverages" but added "Non-Coffee Drinks" later on. Now we have "Beverages" at the top, a bunch of retail and food stuff, and finally "Non-Coffee Drinks" at the bottom, and NO WAY TO BRING THEM TOGETHER so that our checkout folks can make logical sense out of the order of the item grid tabs.

Square is really behind on this - people have been asking (from the above thread) for years for this pretty basic functionality.

I agree I wish there was easier way to edit the item grid, and I do think this is a huge feature that would benefit the Point of Sale application. 

I recommend you submit a Feature Request here. This will help our product team get visibility and track other Sellers’ interest in your request.

Important: When submitting a request, make sure to include the desired feature, and provide the details of how this feature will help your business succeed (how would you use it and what you expect from it).

I agree. It would be great to be able to shuffle the tabs around. 

It's great that we can move the items around on that page, but to reorder the pages would be helpful.

I wanted to make sure this we understood correctly. I had to read it a couple times to make sure I got it.

I never use the Keypad tab, and rarely the Library. It would be nice to move those tabs to the end.

I don't even see how to delete a page/tab once you've created it.
