Always print customer receipt

New account and playing around with the Square app on my ipad.  If I go forward with Square I'll be purchasing the Square Register with the customer facing display.

My questions is is there a way to default to just printing receipts after every transaction is completed?  I don't want the customer to have to choose.  Speed is my most important thing and having the customer push a button just slows everything down.

I'm also confused why there are two Square apps.  One has the grid which is a necessity for retail work while the other doesn't.  So long as the Square Register has the square grid that should work for me.  But having the customer have to choose whether to print a receipt or not will be a deal breaker.  Speed is of utmost importance.

Hello @Biggen !

Welcome to the world of Square and the Seller Community! You have chosen well. 🙂

To answer your second question first, the two apps you're seeing are probably Square for Retail and Square Point of Sale. Both have their advantages depending on what type of business you run (those website links go into details on both), but if you're looking for the grid setup I'd say stick with the point of sale. The Square Register has a version of Point of Sale on it by default.

You definitely can have receipts automatically print. This is done on your device: Settings -> Hardware. Find your receipt printer, tap on it. Then tap on Receipts. In this screen is a setting to automatically print receipts.

I will say that anymore most people prefer digital receipts. In fact, if a customer of yours has swiped their card at any other Square merchant and opted into email or text receipts, when they pay at your store their receipt will automatically send to them in whatever way they preferred. If you're using the Register, the customer can choose email or text without slowing you down as well. You may be better off keeping the auto print off and letting them choose. But again I don't know your business and you can make the best decision here.

If you have any other questions please post away here! We're all happy to help.

Thanks for the help.  I’m in a high traffic tourist area with high volume. It takes too long to type in email addresses and a lot of my customers are 50+ who don’t care for electronic receipts.  I’d rather have a receipt print out and send them on their way.
