Viewing Customer Notes

Hello,

We are using Square to set up payments at our playground for recreational sports. We asked parents and guardians to enter a memo note for the children they are paying for to help us track who has paid and are unable to see the notes. I did a test for my child, the note is on the receipt and not on CSV when I export it. What am I missing? Am I exporting the wrong CSV?

Thanks,

Tony

Which CSV are you exporting? From which page on the dashboard?

I use notes extensively. We sell photos, so I have to put the file name in the notes. It's the easiest way for me.

I export from the transactions page. I use the Transactions CSV and the Item Detail CSV.

The item detail csv shows me the notes as written on the order, the transactions CSV says Description and combines the item name and the notes.

Let me know if this helps, or give me more details and I'll see what I can help you figure out.

I've tried multiple reports including from the transaction page. Not sure if it changes things, but these are online orders and the customer is adding the note at the payment screen.

I see. That helps. I assume this is an order note at the end of checkout?
I tried to verify you could put a note at the end, but I didn't want to put in my card info.

Since you're doing it online, there's actually a better way. If you create the item on your Online store dashboard, not the regular dashboard, you can add a modifier they have to type the answer into and you can make it a required field so they can't forget.

On the regular dashboard, go to the menu and click Online.

On the Online dashboard menu click items, the site items.

You should see (or search for) the item in questions.

If you edit the item, scroll down to Modifiers and click Manage Modifiers.

Under Apply Modifiers, click create new.

It will give you an option of a list of options or textbox.

When you export the Items CSV, the answers they typed will show up in the Modifiers Applied.

However, it doesn't show up on the Transactions CSV.

Just know that if you have more than one modifier, it shows them all, so you might want to order them so the name is first or last to make it easier to read.

It's been a while since I set one of these up. If you have any issues doing this, let me know and I'll look at it more closely. If I remember correctly, I found it worked best to create the item in the dashboard, then edit it in the online dashboard.

Also, the textbox options will not show up on the tablet pos, just on the website link.
