Barcode scanning pulls up category not item

This morning when we scan an item barcode the screen brings up it's category, not the item, and doesn't add anything to the basket. Anyone else? Thank you!

Ok, I reached out to support and looks like a software update added a feature which is toggled off by default... 

Go to edit item from the dashboard, scroll down to 'Skip customization when possible' and toggle it to on. You have to do this for every item with variations.
