Feature Request: Create Shipping Rate by Delivery Postcode

Feature Request: Create Shipping Rate by Delivery Postcode

Hi

The cost we incur for shipping varies significantly depending on postcode.

Is there any way to set the amount we charge customers based on postcode ?

All i can see at the moment is the ability to set different rates for different States (e.g. NSW, Victoria, Western Australia) but in reality it costs us more to send a parcel from where we are in NSW to regional NSW than it does from where we are in NSW to metro Western Australia...

thanks

David

PrivateRe: Requesting Beta Access

Hi @coastalb,

Thanks for writing back in to the community 😊

After some testing on shipping rates I wasn't able to find a way to differentiate shipping further by postcode, or a way to upload a list of postcodes, and the associated shipping rates.

Local delivery allows you to add postcodes to the areas you'll deliver to, locally. Unfortunately, you wouldn't be able to use this as a workaround for Australia-wide delivery- the list of postcodes would just be exceedingly long.

I can definitely see how the ability to add different shipping rates, for example for regional/ remote postcodes would be helpful, and will pass your feedback on to our eCom team as a suggestion.

A workaround could be to calculate the average postage cost for now.

We appreciate you writing in, and sorry for not having a solution for this right now!

Thanks.

Average doesn't work very well because of the significant variations unfortunately.

So we will probably just have to move to a different platform for our online sales for now (the online platforms used by many of our competitors do allow different rates based on postcode and not being able to do this is putting us at a big disadvantage).

thanks anyway

Completely understand that you have to do what's best for your business, @coastalb! Hopefully we can offer this feature in the future.

Hi Arie

It would be great if you would pass this request on to the eCom team, because being able to do setup regions with postcodes/postcode ranges defined to then be able to apply the correct pricing per region is a pretty big thing here for Australian sellers.

We kind of accept the pain of having to list lots of postcodes in shipping setup so that when the customer puts in their postcode for a remote or expensive delivery location (eg Norfolk Island) they are getting charged the correct rate instead of the seller having to effectively sell their item at a loss (or not offer it for sale in that region at all) because only an understated "averaged" shipping charge has been applied due to system limitations.

BigCommerce (who I am with but currently looking to shift away from) have this functionality down pat - it seems to be quite simple design-wise and by the looks of it, most of the elements are already in place with the Squareup shipping - it just needs to allow the seller to be able to drill down to that final level of postcode entry per region if they wish to do take the time to do that layer of setup!

That's my 2 cents worth anyway - definitely voting for coastalb's request!

Thanks!

Thank you for adding your vote to this feature request @HandyItems! I'll pass your feedback on to our eCom team, as well 👍

I'm wondering if a solution has been found for this? I'm wanting to offer free delivery to people in the town where I live only and charge for delivery anywhere else in Australia.

Hi @TMG19,

I'm so sorry for the delay in getting back to you here last Wednesday! We had a few team members out of the office and as a result requests have taken longer to process.

After speaking with the Square Online team, the ability to create shipping rates based on postcodes is still on our radar for Square Online. Unfortunately, I don't have a specific timeline to share with you at this moment. Rest assured, by bringing up this request again, we aim to highlight its popularity and advocate for its prioritisation within our team.

Should there be any developments on our end, you can count on us to keep you posted in this thread.

Thanks Laurie,

If you could keep me in the loop that would be great.

In the meantime I guess I can offer a discount code or a refund.
