Naming Photo and Documents Files

I'm looking for some definitive information on naming photo and document files prior to uploading to a Weebly site.

From what I understand, if I upload photo A with the file name IMG_123.jpg to an image element in January, then later in the year in July I upload a different photo B to a new image element, and phot B happens to have the same filename as photo A, IMG_123.jpg, I will be unable to upload photo B. Photo A will appear instead in the new image element.

1) Is this correct?

2) If yes, why does this happen?

3) Is there an official Weebly webpage that outlines this?

Thank you.

Welcome to the Seller Community, @otsha1

The scenario you described is indeed correct. I believe that Photo B would replace Photo A, though. If I recall, I have come across posts where people described uploading an image and then finding out later that the image had suddenly appeared on a different site, or previously edited page.

I do not know how to explain the technical reason why this happens, but @AdamB may be able to break this down for us.

As far as I know this is not documented anywhere. 🤔 I can find out for sure, and can put in a request to have it included in the help center resources if it is not.

Thanks for posting about this. I'll make sure to reach out to Adam directly if he doesn't receive a notification that he was tagged in this post. 😊

@BernadetteA is correct, @otsha1 - if photo B and photo A have the same filename and you upload photo B after photo A, it will overwrite photo A.

We store all files for all sites within the same directory (this makes using files across sites easier), which means you'll still see this happen even if photo A and B were uploaded to different sites.
