Using subdomains for different pages

Hello,

I wanted to make each of the blogs on my site point to a different subdomain. For example, if my homepage points to blog1.siteurl.com,I want to make the next blog be located at blog2.siteurl.com, and so on.

I can see how to change the permalink URL, but not point it to a subdomain. Do I need to use URL redirection for this? How will that impact search results?

Thanks

Hi @srbulger You will need to setup the redirects with the domain dns. You can only have one url "connected" to your site. But can definitely redirect subdomains to individual pages with a cname or 302 redirect. Is the domain hosted here or with a third party?

Thank you for the response Bernadette!

I was doing more research last night and thought that may be the solution. I am using Google as my domain registrar. I was working with the DNS settings quite a bit last night while trying to get my email set up, and added in a redirect to test. I haven't really tested it yet, but I think I understand how it works now.

If I understand it correctly I can use the redirect to someone can enter blog1.siteurl.com, and then have it redirect to siteurl.com/blog1.htm, correct? The only thing I was hoping for was to be able to mask the url to show what was entered, but my understanding is that that can cause issues with SEO.

Hi there. Smiley Happy Yes, masking the domain can definitely cause some issues, but I believe if you setup a 302 redirect you shouldn't have too much a bad impact. But you are absolutely right that you can setup the subdomain and point it to a specific page on your site. Smiley Happy
