Site Code "Breaks" When Using Google Translation Tool

In Chrome, I added Chinese to the language settings to easily switch between English and Chinese on any website. When I do this on the Weebly site I'm building for a client, it translates the text without any issues however when the browser window is resized the site code "breaks"—similar to when a bracket or semicolon is omitted when customizing the CSS. View screengrabs of the issue here

NOTE 1:  Weebly's Multilanguage app has been added to the site, which is why there are two Chinese menu items. I'm fairly certain (as described below) that this is not related to Multilanguage. We were testing Chrome's translation tool becuase many of the site's eventual visitors will use it out of habit rather than using Multilanguage.

NOTE 2:  Using Chrome, I tested this on a selection of other Weebly sites (not mine) and found the code "break" occurs on the vast majority (ex 1, ex 2, ex 3, ex 4, ex 5). Some Weebly sites did not have the issue ( ex 1, ex 2, ex 3). One had it only on select pages (ex 1). I did not experience the issue on any non-Weebly sites tested

NOTE 3:  The issue also occurred using various translation extensions in Firefox and Safari (extensions that pull in Google translations). In many cases, the code broke immediately upon the initial translation. Some extensions worked fine, however, with no code break issues.

An inherent issue in the original code of certain Weebly themes? A Google problem?

Thanks,

John

Upon further review, this appears to be an issue with a handful of non-Roman alphabet languages. A list-in-progress includes:

  • Chinese-simplified
  • Chinese-traditional
  • Greek
  • Sindhi
  • Burmese (Myanma)

Hi John. Was this custom code that you added to the site? Or are you saying you changed the language under the Settings tab?

Thanks for the reply Bernadette.

The code break issue isn't related to Weebly site language settings (all sites tested are English sites), but I don't know if it's related to custom coding.

The issue occurs in a variety of browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox) when translating with either the browser's language settings or a translation plug-in. Google Translate was in use whenever the issue occurred; it never occurred with Microsoft Translate.

It happened in most (as in 90+%) of the Weebly sites I tested. This issue does not occur when viewing non-Weebly sites.
The Weebly sites included both sites I have worked on (which have custom coding) and those created by other people (no idea if they have custom coding).

I found the code break issue only happens with some, but not all, non-Roman alphabet languages, including Chinese (both simplified and traditional), Greek, Sindhi, and Burmese (Myanma).

To summarize,

When using Google Translate in a variety of browsers, the code for nearly all Weebly websites "breaks" when the browser window is re-sized after switching the language from English to some non-Roman alphabet languages. This issue does not occur in non-Weebly sites.

Hope that helps clarify. Any thoughts you might have would be appreciated.
