Mobile site navigation (hamburger bar) doesn't work

It seems like this has been asked before, but I couldn't really find a definite answer to what is up. As the title of this post explains, the mobile site navigation fails to work. Currently I only have one other page to link to, which can be accessed from a link within the footer, but it would be nice if a user could gain access to this page from the hamburger bar. I am using the Unite theme, with a few custom codes written in. The site is thuspakethezonbi.com, for reference.

I don't have a smartphone, so I can't check if it is working or not, but my brother, who provides the content, noticed. I tried on a friend's iphone 6, and it didn't work. Any ideas on how to fix this, other than switching themes? Having to switch themes seems to be a poor solution to this problem.

If you temporarily switch back to the standard version of Unite and re-publish, does it work @sherman?

I will have to ask my brother to do check. Give me a day or so.

Sorry for the delay. I've been busy with other work. I would like to know before I switch to the standard version of my current theme, can I easily switch back to the edited theme?

No worries! You should still have your previous theme in the Recent Themes tab, or the Custom tab. Don't forget to save the theme before switching!

Okay. I'll ask my brother if it works or not, but due to the time difference between where we live it might be a few days before he replies.

Hi there,

I need help with this. When I switch back to the standard theme the navigation on mobile does work - but now randomly not with my custom theme. I agree that having to switch back to a standard theme isn't really a solution - it creates another problem! I have made the changes I wanted to, to my website, hence having and wanting a custom theme!

What's the point of offering customisation if basic features like a working mobile navigation might not work?!

Can you please explain this to me because switching back can't be the solution? I am suppose to be launching my website in 2 days and can't do so if (a) the website doesn't work on mobile (unacceptable in today's world) or (b) publish a website I am not satisfied with because I have had to un-do all the customisation I have spent hundreds of hours on.

Hey there. I definitely get your frustration with this. Weebly has always been designed to be a simple drag and drop platform. We do give the option to access the css/html so that you can tweak the site if you want, but we are unable to assist with any issues the custom coding may cause. Community does allow you to request assistance (very helpful to post your website and code you tweaked) and there is almost always someone willing to provide insight. What kind of changes did you make to the site?

Hi Bernadette,

I've always seen Weebly promoted as a platform appealing to its css customisation abilities...

So, is my mobile navigation not working because I personally have done something wrong when tweaking the coding? Or is this a Weebly flaw?

If I return to my standard theme and conservatively re-code, am I going to potentially have this same problem by simply coding ANYTHING or will I run into the problem through my own coding doing?

I've made a number of incremental changes... Mainly with the logo positioning and header.

Thanks for your help

It could be the custom coding, but we wouldn't know for sure unless it is switched to a standard theme. You can actually save your theme and it will show up in the theme options so you can switch back at anytime. The thing to watch out for when switching themes is the content in the header area. I don't know the exact reason (Adam may know) but anything in the header area would have to be recreated. I like to make a copy of the site first so I can test out the switch on the copy site in case anything goes totally buggy. As far as running into any future issues, unfortunately, it's hard to say. If an update is made to the original theme that you customized the update may not be compatible with your coding. As you can imagine, it would take a TON of resources and time for us to comb through every account with custom coding to find where the error is occurring- this being a big driving factor when it comes to our support center not being able to provide assistance.

With that said, community is definitely where you would want to be regarding these questions. If you want to post your site and edited code someone will take a look for you! Smiley Very Happy

Thanks for your reply and info 🙂

If someone could please take a look - http://www.adiabeticsmenu.com/about.html

(website not fully launched yet so other areas not accessible)

So the problem is that my mobile navigation isn't working... I click on the three horizontal lines and it just comes up with an X. But on desktop, no problem. Also, if someone can help me to get the logo text centered on mobile view too that would be amazing! Thanks for your help Smiley Happy

Here's my header code: (let me know if you need anything else... I have been making incremental chnges based on online tutorials /very small knowledge myself of coding)

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1.0" />
</head>

<body class="header-page">

<div class="wrapper">
<div class="unite-header">
<div class="nav-wrap">
<div class="container">
<label class="hamburger"><span></span></label>
<div class="logo">{logo}</div>
<div class="nav desktop-nav">{menu}</div>
<div class="nav membership-cart">{membership}{minicart}</div>
</div>
</div>
</div>

<div class="banner-wrap">
{{#header}}
<div class="container">
<div class="banner">{content}</div>
</div>
{{/header}}
</div>

<div class="main-wrap">
{{#sections}}
<div class="container">{content}</div>
{{/sections}}
</div>

<div class="footer-wrap">
<div class="footer">{footer}</div>
</div>
</div>

<style>
#wsite-title>ADM.</span> { display:none; }
</style>

</div>

<script>
(function(d) {
var config = {
kitId: 'nxe1ajf',
scriptTimeout: 3000,
async: true
},
h=d.documentElement,t=setTimeout(function(){h.className=h.className.replace(/\bwf-loading\b/g,"")+" wf-inactive";},config.scriptTimeout),tk=d.createElement("script"),f=false,s=d.getElementsByTagName("script")[0],a;h.className+=" wf-loading";tk.src='https://use.typekit.net/'+config.kitId+'.js';tk.async=true;tk.onload=tk.onreadystatechange=function(...)
})(document);
</script>

<script type="text/javascript" src="/files/theme/plugins.js"></script>

Hey... Me again.

I can't figure out how to post a new post on here to ask for help on another issue I have just come across Smiley Sad

Was hoping you could please help me with this too.

I have just noticed that the alignment of my photos differs between the editor mode of weebly vs it being pubslihed.

I have attached photos from the editor in the first 2 pictures (where the photos align themsleves perfectly as per the dimensions I have arranged of the elements) vs. the published view shown in the last 2 pictures which ... well you can see it is not what I was wanting Smiley Sad

I went from being so close to finally finishing my website to now having to deal with these issues I never could have forseen as an issue (mobile navigation and my editing alignments not reflecting the final product)

😫🤯😑

That seems like a CSS issue causing the images to do that. Is that page of your site live?

Hey Adam,

Yes it is live but currently hidden from non-members. This is a recurring problem on almost every recipe page.

How do I go about fixing it?

Thanks for your help

You've got some broken code by the style tag (looks like a closing </span> tag stuck in there for some reason). That may or may not be the cause of what you're seeing though I would fix that anyway.

Thanks Adam - can you point me to what exactly I need to remove?

Thanks again

Change this bit:

<style>
#wsite-title>ADM.</span> { display:none; }
</style>

To this:

<style>
#wsite-title { display:none; }
</style>

I'm not sure if that's the cause of your issue, though it would be good to fix that either way.

Thanks Adam, have made that change 🙂

No changes to the problems though, as you said might be the case.

Any other suggestions?
