Alt text has some implications in SEO and other details, but the usual purpose is to describe the image. It displays when the image fails to load, or when a user hovers the cursor over the image, in order to tell people what it contains.

Alt text is also for visually impaired and screen readers.
Pinterest uses Alt text for descriptions.
Would be great to have dialog box with image for alt text instead of more complicated method now on Weebly.
