How do I change the way product zoom feature works?

Currently, if you hover your mouse over the product's image, the site zooms only within the image box, thus you have to keep hovering your mouse around to see all parts of the item.

The images I have are large and great quality and I would prefer to either

a) when you hover your mouse over the item, you get a much larger pop up "zoomed" look as opposed to being confined into the smaller image box size

or 

b) when you hover over the image, you see a magnifying glass and then you can click. Atwhich point a pop up and zoomed image appears that you may view.

Anyone experienced this before?

I wish the zoom feature was not so extreme. There should be an option to choose the maganification. Right now I feel there are no options pertaining to this feature.

I ran through the HTML code and I see that the product zoom feature is being handled by what looks like a javascript plugin, is there a way I can access this plugin directly to edit the code myself?

I have tried browsing through the 'Edit HTML/CSS' button and searched through all of the files but cannot find either the 'cloud-zoom-big' element nor the 'mousetrap' class it is nested within.

I realize this is probably too late to help you, but it could help others with this problem so I thought I'd share my solution.

If you go to the "Theme" tab and select "Edit HTML/CSS" it will bring you to some HTML/CSS/and Javascript files that you can modify. Then go to Partcials->Commerce->Product->images.tpl.

Just delete the sections that say "zoom" and your product images will no longer zoom in on hover
