Contact Form not working

Hello,

I've just noticed a problem with contact forms and I need to fix it urgently. I've tested in more than one page of my website and the forms teorically are been sent (the confirmation page appears), but not only are not received in the e-mail, as they doesn't even appear in the website editor. Is there any bug happening? Are those forms lost forever? Please, help me!

Thanks, Catarina

Hi @ryancrandall It's possible the browsers you are testing are cached. I just tried from Chrome (Mac) and the form went through successfully. Can you check to see if you received it?

Hey Adam.

I've seen this behavior within ALL my sites on numerous occasions now, custom or standard. Finally ticked me off enough to look deeper today. It has to be something to do with IP blocking or restriction within formSubmitAjax.php. Maybe a bug in the script that can't handle repeated submissions from one IP? That would be my guess as changing browsers, clearing cache, changing devices all result in the same failed submission once they start occuring. However when I switch my phone over to data from wifi, grab a new IP from my network provider, submissions work again on all sites from the new IP my phone has aquired. Once I hit what seems to be a certain number of submissions from a certain IP, within a certain timeframe, all my forms on all my sites stop validating and stop sending emails. Just to confirm this absolutely affects all Weebly sites, custom or standard theme, mine or otherwise. Once my IP has been blocked or restricted I can no longer submit any Weebly forms from any Weebly sites successfully. I've tried unsuccessfully to send submissions to every site in this thread. Each time no validations fire, and I get the success message. I can't actually validate if my email gets through or not as I don't own the sites listed here. I can only speculate that if no validations fire and I am getting the success message with all fields empty then the submission failed similar to the requests through my own sites. Eventually over time I am able to start submitting successfully again. This really slows down the development process.

Here is the response from formSubmitAjax.php. The response also seems to be returned almost instantaneously once submissions start failing. Doesn't seem to be any processing going on server side as the response is sent in under 80ms. It's a successful response but nothing is happening server side. No validations and no email. 80ms is many times faster than the average response time I see from a successful submission.

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head><meta name="format-detection" content="telephone=no"><script type="text/javascript">function ret(){parent.postMessage && parent.postMessage(document.getElementById('response').childNodes[0].nodeValue,'https://cbdoilnow.weebly.com');}</script></head><body onload='ret()'><div id='response'>{"success":true,"action":"finished","data":{"message":"Thank you. Your information has been submitted.","ucfid":"877634281479841616"}}</div></body></html>

Site in question is https://cbdoilnow.weebly.com/contact.html

This is simply a sandbox, with no modifications, to test in. My submissions fail here but also in every other Weebly site once they start to fail in general. Again, this is not restricted to my sites, once submissions start failing within any Weebly site attempting to submit a request through any other Weebly site will fail. No validations fire, which I assume means no one receives my email, and yet I get the success message.

Due to the intermittent nature of this bug simply going to any of the links yourself and submitting once is not sufficient testing. Submit multiple times in quick succession and you may be surprised what happens!

This has been going on for months, maybe longer.

Cheers...

Again, this has been happening for a long while. Just didn't look into it any further as it only became a nuisance while actively developing a page and I could just switch to another IP and get back functionality . Didn't realize multiple people were experiencing the same issue and losing submissions, nor did I realize once your IP is affected all Weebly sites stop functioning for the affected client. That was just something tested today.

Did some more testing. For myself this occurs if six concurrent entries with the same email address occur within a short timespan. That's the only way I can reproduce predictably. Might happen at other times but I've reproduced on multiple occasions after six submissions with the same email address. Problem is that once your IP has been blocked/restricted you can no longer submit any Weebly form from any Weebly site regardless of what text you are entering. All submissions will look like they succeed, you'll get the success message, but no email is sent or logged in the Dashboard.

I'm sure this is a way to restrict spamming but it makes development difficult when you only have so many valid testing emails you are able to use during the develpment period. Would also be nice to have an appropriate error message returned if this is indeed the case so the end user knows what's going on. Certainly, once blocked/restricted it should not be Weebly wide.

I am seeing the same problem with the Weebly forms.

Question: How long does it take for your IP address to get unblocked again?

Kind regards,

Bram

Ok, it's likely that your tests were perceived as spammy and blocked, although it wouldn't prevent you from trying again. Try visiting your form in a different browser and entering everything with as close to real info as possible.

Welcome to the Community, @nikolaygramercy.

I see a javascript error in the web inspector console, but it's from some other content you added and not the form (I believe it's the Gobot app). Can you try removing that app, publishing, then testing your form again?

This was driving me crazy but I figured out what worked to fix this (for the time being) so give this a shot if you are running into this problem.

When you are editing/building your contact form, switch out the 'Name' field and instead use a 'Short Text Box'. Solved our problems and all forms are coming through to our email and in our form entries.

My form used to work fine for a couple of tests. Now it does not work any longer.

The message "Your information has been transmitted" appears but the entry is not registered and I do not recieve any E-Mail.

The form is www.kgo.ch/bewerbung.html
