Change a Contributor to Administrator role

I have 4 Weebly websites, only 2 are currently published. I am owner/admin on all sites.  BUT, one of my websites called www.lexithemovie.com has limited access because Weebly has noted me as a "contributer". That staus needs to be changed by Weebly to "owner" or "administrator" so I can ugrade and improve my website. I need assistance with this issue.

Our support team can't transfer sites between accounts or change ownership of sites, and upgrades need to be made from within the account which owns the website. In this case, this is the account under the email address that Bernadette referenced above; this should be the person who originally invited you to edit the site. One thing the site owner could do is change the email address on the account to something you control, that way you could log into the account and upgrade/manage the site directly in that account.

Hi @wayneT You will need to log into the main account for that site under the email that begins with turnerww

Hi, I recieved an email from weebly help desk. However, the problem still exists. My  lexithemovie.com is still down. The situation is very troubling.

You are currently logged into a contributor account. Do you have access to the email that begins with vilar4@ ?

I'm having the same issue as well.  When I created a second site the first site automatically made me a contributor - I didn't change anything and now I can't upgrade my account because I don't know how to change it back to me being the owner.

www.corporateleadershipcoaching.com.au

I have another domain registered and hosted by Weebly - www.helenluxford.com which I can access, but for some reason, even though I own www.corporateleadershipcoaching.com.au and should be an administrator, it's only showing me as a contributor.  AND....it says this website is a 'free' weebly account, which is also incorrect as I pay for my Weebly account.

Can you please change my status to administrator or tell me how I can do it if I'm listed only as a contributor?

Thank  you
Helen

Hi @HelenLux

It definitely sounds like you may be logged into the wrong account. Does anyone else have access to the account, or is it just you logging in?

I am logged in with Administrator permissions but "Contributor" is what appears in the dashboard.

I do not have any options to copy the website so I can redesign it. Please advise what I can do?

Thanks

Thanks for your post, @stdcadmin.

While being an administrator will give you full to edit and publish the site, it won't give you access to copy the site. This will need to be done from within the account that owns the site, and then the site owner will need to invite you to edit the copy.

Thank you Adam - that is very helpful. The owner of the site is not "techie"...and possibly doesn't know how to do that as he has taken over the business from someone else. Can you please be more specific about the instructions I need to give him to do that? I guess my question is how does he access "the account"? Where would that information be? I've asked the bookkeeper for information about the Weebly site and she doesn't know either. It seems strange that if he has given me the same login and email address that he uses, why I (or him as a matter of fact) cannot have full access.

Thank you - much appreciated!

Hi again Adam,

As far as I can tell...there is only the one login email/pw for the website and that is what the "site owner" has given me. So I am also able to "invite myself"...and give myself permissions - there are 3 options as you know and I have selected the first "Admin" option. The other two Author and Dashboard only are "Pro" accounts and not relevant.

If there is another "Site Owner" login that he needs to access to give me permission to copy the site please let me know. Also if this is only possible with another paid plan.

Ahh, so the site owner gave their login info? "Admin" is the correct option if you want to give your own account full editing access of the copy.

Thank you Adam - that is what I'm trying to find out about why I still cannot make a copy of the website having been given all the permissions? I've checked everywhere on the dashboard and there is no option to make a copy...I've read all the community info and youtube etc. but nothing.

I've told the site owner that we can at least look at "Preview" themes to see what the site could look like...but I need to be able to have another copy so that the actual site will not be "down" or unpublished while I am redesigning it.

Is the email address you posted the one that they gave you? That email address is for an account that is an administrator of the site but not the account that owns the site.

Ohh...ok that is becoming a little clearer...I will be meeting with the site owner tomorrow and will let him know...he may know of another one...but he didn't seem to when I asked him. If he can't find another email address is there another route we (he) can go to find the email for the "account owner". This site was just passed over to him when he took over the position. Could he find it from payment to Weebly for hosting for example?

Thanks.

If he isn't sure what email address he used for the account that owns the site then he can submit a request to our support team with the Account Recovery form. After our support team verifies ownership they can provide the email address to him
