Cannot upload a file

I have a file price_charts_v3_0.html at http://lemonfoolfinancialsoftware.weebly.com/price-charts.html

I tried to upload a new version price_charts_v4_0.html and got the response "Oops. You are not allowed to upload this type of file". The file is some html code with some javascript. Nothing complicated, and v4_0 is only slightly different to v3_0

I had similar problems in the past where a LibreOffice Calc document containing some StarBasic scripts failed to upload. A few weeks later it uploaded OK.

I guess there is some form of antivirus acting on the upload process, but it is finding false postives.

If I cannot rely on Weebly to accept updated files, maybe it's time to find an alternative host

@kiloran

Unless things have changed I always understood that, although you can embed HTML & JS in the Embed Code element, you can't directly upload .html and .js files to Weebly.

I tried to download your .html file directly and via a downloader app and this is all I get both times:image

Thanks Gary.

What you downloaded is what I expect for v3_0. It used to work correctly but now exhibits that problem, which is why I want to update to v4_0.

I've never had problems uploading v1_0, v2_0 and v3_0, they all uploaded and downloaded OK. The upload process is now broken for this file.

I tried with various browsers on Windows 10 and Linux, but all with the same error message

@seicolegwrUnless things have changed recently Weebly permits the upload of .js files....

It's correct that you can't upload .HTML files, but .JS files should be fine. If that doesn't seem to work let me know, though!

Adam, I have upload html files over the years (as you can see from my original post). I have never had a problem before. Something has recently changed at the Weebly end.

By the way, if I change the filetype from .html to .txt (or anything else), the upload still fails

I would zip your HTML file and upload the zip file instead, @kiloran. That should work using a regular button, text, or image link.

Now this is really strange. When I first had the problem, I tried changing from .html to .txt, and also tried zipping the file and the uploads failed. Today, the upload accepts the zipped file!

9 months ago, I had the same problem with a rejected upload of a LibreOffice Calc document which contained some Basic scripts. I tried zipping that and the upload still failed. Some months later, the upload of the unzipped file worked OK.

I am convinced that there is a problem with a virus checker at Weebly.

For now, my problem is solved. The zip solution is non-ideal but tolerable.

I am concerned about the future. Spending a load of time building and maintaining a site and then not being able to reliably make simple changes is a worry, and will make me consider using another host

I remember when you had that issue! It is possible for something like that to block uploads, although I don't have any details on when we update rules for our virus scanning software.

Unfortunately that does not help me. I want to upload an html file containing a bit of javascript so that users can download the file, edit it, and then display their edited version in a browser. If I embed the html/js on my Weebly page, users cannot edit the code.

It used to work fine, but now Weebly does not allow an upload
