adding text under images

How do I add text to images on the gallery theme?  I have 2 columns of 4 images but when I hover my mouse over one image, it thinks all images are one entity.  Need to split these up individually.

If you click on any image once you get the gallery options. If you click the same image a second time it should bring up the options for that individual image with a black bar and the options Link; Caption; Alt Text; Delete. 'Caption' is the one you want.

The caption normally appears on hover for a thumbnail and underneath the image when the lightbox is used.

Thanks Gary. I was hoping to add text below each image so it would show instead of having to hover over image.

If you use the VERTICAL DIVIDER or MASONRY LAYOUT apps, without any visible borders, you can emulate the IMAGE GALLERY but include the captions underneath the individual images instead of on hover.
