What do I do with this email: Update your Weebly login by October 6, 2022

I got this email today about updating Weebly login to Square.

I click the link Update Login, I enter username/password and get to Weebly Dashboard.

What next? Am I supposed to do something?

I am not prompted with anything else to do. It's really not very clear what I am supposed to do.

Please advise - I am guessing this email was sent to many people, it can't just be me who is confused.

Email body reads:

Dear Valued Customer,

As a current Weebly user, you are required to update your login and connect with Square by October 6, 2022. With Square, your site will have an extra layer of security with two-factor authentication, access to a suite of business tools, and the ability to process payments more securely.

Update your login now. This will only take a few minutes.

By creating a Square login, nothing will change with your existing website. For more information, please read here.

Thanks,
The Weebly Team

I got it too. Clicked the link in the email, signed in to Weebly, and now have no idea what to do next or how to do what they are asking with a "Square" account.

I think I figured it out (maybe). I logged in then on the main landing page I selected "settings" then "checkout". There is then a list of different options to "connect" to with Square being at the top with a green "recommended" tag next to it. I clicked "connect" and followed the prompts. Seemed to work with a "success, you're now connected to Square" message. I now have the two-factor authentication process when logging in. Hopefully, that's what they wanted us to do! Who knows?? Hope this helps anyone else trying to figure this out!

I wasn't even aware I had a weebly account, so I'm extra confused.

The best way around it is to create a personal site, but only get as far as editing before closing out (don't enter a url or anything), it will then take you to the dashboard where you can connect your accounts.

I can't find out how to delete my weebly account though, as I don't have any personal settings

It seems legit but they don't seem to care to prove to people it is legit.

Are we giving up our passwords to hackers?

I went to weebly.com not through the email and logged in but nowhere is there a place we can contact weebly that I can find.

I am going back to weebly via the .com address and won't pay the email any mind until someone answers.

It takes me to a page that only lets you create a website, no option for log in.  And I can't find a basic weebly login and when I go to my site and login there is nothing that I can find to do this connection/update.  I am looking forward to seeing if anything is anwered here.

I have just updated the login with 4 square, it is a mess. Norweign. Only Translates to English for a short time. No idea what to do with it? If I find my way to edit site, it is not my site. Absolutely shocking change, what was wrong with login to a site that worked before, easy to use. I need to access out business website to update it. It works as we intended and has done for years. Can someone please resolve this, I do not want to build a new site and go through linking everything through years of business, drive traffic and try to get google rankings again.

Sorry for the confusion, @Advise2022 Can you confirm the URL of the site you are trying to access?

IS THIS TRUE?? When creating the Square account, in the terms you have to accept (https://squareup.com/us/en/legal/general/ua), it states the following (5 Your Content):

"You grant us and our subsidiaries, affiliates, and successors a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, fully-paid, transferable, irrevocable, perpetual, and sub-licensable right to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, prepare derivative works of, distribute, publicly perform, and publicly display your Content throughout the world in any media for any reason, including to provide, promote, and/or incorporate into the Services. You retain all rights in your Content, subject to the rights you granted to us in these General Terms. You may modify or remove your Content via your Square Account or by terminating your Square Account, but your Content may persist in historical, archived or cached copies and versions thereof available on or through the Services."

SERIOUSLY???

Hi @riinabodyart If you decide to leave Weebly/Square for any reason, there is an option to permanently remove your content from our servers by using the My Data tab on the Account Settings page.

I know legal jargon can sound a bit intense, however, this is basically stating that Square is able to publish your uploaded content on your behalf. Your content (website) can be viewed from multiple devices such as a computer or mobile phone. Lastly, a good example of a cached version is the Wayback Machine website which displays cached versions of websites. We do not control what remains cached on browsers, but if you were to view the Wayback Machine website, you would see cached images of how your website looked on a specific date, as uploaded to our servers.

Is there anything in particular that you are worried about? You are always welcome to reach out to the support team, and a rep can escalate your request to our Policy team for confirmation.

Also, for what it's worth, Weebly has similar verbiage here under Section 7. Your Rights in your Content.
