Sharing website link on Facebook - Showing weird text.

When I share my website link on Facebook, a random title shows up that I can't find anywhere on my website, but I want to change it.  How do I edit what shows up here?  The link shows our last name with a lowercase c (which I have no clue where on the website this is), and the text shows the 2nd page first paragraph text as opposed to our first page.

Thanks in advance for the help!

It looks like Facebook had cached info for your site and was showing that.  I've cleard Facebook's cache with their debug tool, so it'll show up-to-date info if you share again.

Thank you! Is there a way for me to cleare the cache for this? If not, are you able to do this 1 more time? It is now cached on showing "home", which I had as my title before but since removed it.

Hey there!

You'll want to use this tool. Just enter the URL, and you can reset it as often as you like.

Hi!

i am not very IT savvy, but have a similiar problem whenever i want to share my website updates with my FB Page. No photo whatsoever - just a blank square with some of my site's text underneath as caption.

My questions:

-Would your FB Tool also work to correct my issue?

-Which url am i to insert: FB or my website?

Thanks so much for your help!

-RL

You would want to try that tool first, yes. Just enter the website URL.

Thank you , Queso, but i got the following warnings when i tried to debug. What to do now? Can you help, or should i just accept that FB will never post my website updates?

caution-solidWarnings That Should Be Fixed

  • Inferred Property
The 'og:image' property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
  • Inferred Property
The 'og:url' property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
  • Inferred Property
The 'og:title' property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
  • Share App ID Missing
The 'fb:app_id' property should be explicitly provided, Specify the app ID so that stories shared to Facebook will be properly attributed to the app. Alternatively, app_id can be set in url when open the share dialog.

That might be something you'd need to ask Facebook about directly, as the tool wouldn't be one of ours, and I couldn't tell you what those warnings mean, myself (though one of our Community members may know more).

If you're willing to wade into some parts of coding, Facebook does offer a tagging system that lets you control exactly what appears and how when you share a page here that's worth a look.

Thank you Queso. I appreciate your time and suggestions. However, I don't think I will get into any coding as I am not very IT literate. I may query FB though on the subject. Thanks again!

Thank you for this.  Last question, is there a way for me to explicitly show within 'og:image' my image property? The image will not come over, and it is due to how it is provided when posted on Facebook.

The 'og:image' property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.

Is this something I can do while editing my site?

Thanks!

Open graph image tags are automatically generated from images on your page.  You can add those yourself to the Header Code field, too, if you want to try and specify a specific image not on the page.

What URL are you sharing?

My blog's fb shares only show text. I get the following warning on the debug tool

The following required properties are missing: og:type, og:image, fb:app_id

Since this is just another blog using weebly, I assume this must be a common problem that everyone who tries to use weebly for their blogs must be facing. Has weebly produced a solution for this, so that the posts we share on facebook with links to our blog posts preview properly? Or is there something blog creators must do? (like installing a fb app on the page or something)
Thanks.

Do you have any regular image elements in your blog posts, @ol? In order for Facebook to use an image with your blog posts, they need to have regular images of at least 200 pixels by 200 pixels.

Thanks Adam, that might have been it. How can we get previews of videos to show btw (so that one can play the video without having to click on the link first), does it only work with images?

You mean you want a video to show up on the Facebook share? I may be wrong, but I don't think it's possible to do this. You would have to share a video on Facebook and link to your website. Again, I could be wrong... do you have an example of what you are trying to do?
