Issue with Weebly theme/header loading long after my content images have loaded

I have created a Photography site using one of Weebly's themes. The site is organized by those places I have travelled to over the years.  It currently contains around 1050 images across 33 pages. Each page uses the weebly template but has a different header photograph to refect the respective content. All header photographs span the full page and are 2000 px x 714 px. In some cases I may have used 2048 px on the long side. All photographs are 2048 on the long side and uder 1 mb.

My issue is that the headers on virtually all of the pages load after the photographs (which seem to load quickly) resulting in visitors to the site having to wait sometimes up to 20 seconds.  I have seen this occur not only on my desktop imac but on the desktops of other colleagues.

My Weebly pro site is https://www.ahmorganphotography.com

I have run diagnostics on it using Pingdom and dont see any obvious issues.  I have also contacted Weebly Technical Support by phone but they dont see it as an issue.  For me it is a huge issue.

I am not conversant with HTML coding so have relied todate on the building tools that Weebly provides.

Any support I can get in this area would be most helpful.

Thanks

Andrew Morgan

Thanks for those of you who took the time to respond. I went back into my site and lowered the size of my headers / banners from 2048 on the long side to 1000.  It seemed to do the trick as there is now very little lag in loading. To date I have only tested that on the North America portion of the site as that is where I have been doing most of my posting lately.  I also divided a particularly long page "North America>national capital region" into two pages "Urban Landscape" and "People & Events".

With that said I'll close off this post.

Desktop>Chrome and Firefox>Average Load time 1.21secs>Average Page size1.52MB>Tested from server Washington D.C.

Testing from server in San Francisco showed Average Load time of 530 ms.

Testing from server in Frankfurt, Germany showed Average time of 1.99secs

Conclusion - for a photography site load times perfectly acceptable!
